Richard5001 Posted November 16, 2017 #1 Posted November 16, 2017 Glad to be a part of this forum. Purchased a project bike 83 Venture. I am building a modified bike and need to understand the electrical. My question is this, Can the cpu be eliminated if you are replacing the headlight and console with an after market. Can everything just be wired direct to function with out messing up the engine performance. I have done the boost mod. however this bike has a boost controller which does not show up on the wiring diagram. Would greatly appreciate any assistance on this.
MiCarl Posted November 17, 2017 #2 Posted November 17, 2017 I believe you're referring to the CMU (not CPU). It's only job is to run the display on the instrument panel - no effect on the engine at all. The engine only needs power to the TCI and coils. The only interlocks to the rest of the motorcycle are the kill switch and side stand switch.

So how modified are you planning? They can be quite fast. I added manual Vboost (Vmax valves) but, in reality, I just leave them cracked open about 20% all of the time since the engine seems to like it. This is my '83. zag
