Last Sunday, we experienced one heck of a storm. It rained a lot starting Sunday and lasting through the night. At around 5:30 Sunday afternoon though, we had a short burst of wind that came through and it was about as bad as I've ever seen here. Reports said that they were radar confirmed at 70 MPH.

My power went off during that time and was out for almost 3 days. The big willow tree that some of you like to camp under lost a huge limb, about 25% of the tree I guess. There were other large limbs all over the yard. One street over, there were about a 1/4 - 1/2 mile of telephone poles that were snapped like toothpicks about half way up. Not broke and hanging over but completely broken in half with the bottom halves still standing straight. These were fairly new poles.

So anyway, power finally came back on. Incredibly the food in the freezers stayed frozen. Probably because I never opened the doors while there was no power. I've made pretty good headway in getting the yard straightened out. Haven't tackled the willow tree yet. I'm going to need a tall ladder to cut the limb where I need to. I'll get to that when I can.

In the meantime, it was 25F here this morning and the first very light dusting of snow. I guess it's time to get the gas tank filled on the bike and Eileen's Spyder and get the Seafoam added.

Sad to say folks but I'm thinking that winter is just around the corner.

We missed most of that storm, got a bit of rain and a little wind, nothing like what was forecasted. Guess it all stayed south of the lake and you got the bundle. If I was closer I'd come and give you a hand to clean up, but then I'd probably have more to do as well.

For the snow, we're ready,,, bring it on!!!

Times like those make you wish you had a generator. But then, how often will you need it and it is something else that needs to be maintained.

Wilmington, NC is the epicenter for hurricanes striking the east coast and when it happens power is lost for a while. So far though 18 hours is about the max time it has been out and so far I haven't bought a generator. But, some folks living in the country have been without power for a couple of weeks. My sister who lives about 3 hours away has one of those big generators that automatically start and provide power when needed. It starts once a week by itself to keep it working properly.

That same storm came thru here before you got it, but it was not as bad here. We only had a bout a half inch of rain and 30-40 wind.

On the other hand it is SNOWING out right now!!!!! :dancefool:  :dancefool:

I used to have one of those. It was 17000 KW. Generac until with automatic transfer switch and ran on propane. It was never hooked to the house. I had it hooked to a greenhouse where we were attempting to raise fish. When we shut down that project, I thought about moving it to the house but ended up selling it. I probably should have kept it but to be honest, it went through a LOT of propane when running so was expensive to operate. It too ran a self test mode once per week. Nice unit though.

Snowing here too. If I find out that YOU are responsible, you are going onto double secret probation. :whistling:

Snowing here too. I don't think it will amount to much though. If I find out that YOU are responsible, you are going onto double secret probation. :whistling:

Would that be again, yet, or still????:stirthepot::snow2::snow::snow2: :moon:

I loose track....................

Does this mean that I was removed from the triple secret probation from last winter????

Y'all do me a favor and keep that weather up there. Wife and I going on a 400 miler tomorrow, still hitting 50s to 60s here. We probably don't get over 30-40 days a year too cold to leather up and ride. On the flip side we have to drink our air in the summer around here. Humidity levels usuallly higher than the temps.

We were heading West on 20 when that came through. Wind abruptly switched directions to the North, got strong and heavy rain. Before we got into it it looked like a solid wall beside the road. Drove about 10MPH for a few miles until it let up.

Quite a blow.
