BlueSky Posted November 9, 2017 #1 Posted November 9, 2017 The President's speech in South Korea reminded me of an incident. He spoke of North Korea seizing our surveillance ship Pueblo and imprisoning the crew for a year in 1968. Then in 1969, N. Korea shot down one of our surveillance planes with about 30 people on board. I was in a 40 week training school at Ft. Bliss Texas learning how to repair the Target Tracking, Target Ranging, Missile Tracking radars and the analog computer that computes the kill point and guides the missile to its target for the Nike Hercules Missile System when the Pueblo was seized. This act may have caused me to be shipped to South Korea when I finished training because we had 6 NH missile systems in S. Korea. While I was there, the plane was shot down. When the plane was shot down a crew sat at the consoles for 3 days with a missile raised ready to fire. We could hit surface to surface and surface to air with conventional and two sizes of atomic warheads. After 3 days things went back to normal. Fast forward several years later after I finished college and went to work. A co-op student at work was in the Air Force stationed at Osan Air Base in S. Korea when the plane was shot down. He said that he was on guard duty when the plane was shot down and that the squadron of jet fighters that were in the air at the time evidently retaliated against N. Korea because when they landed they had dropped their wing tanks and had no missiles or ammo left on the planes. Additionally, the pilots disappeared for about a month and than came back with promotions. The Air Force took a lot of heat and criticism for allowing the ship to be seized and their excuse was that all their planes were armed with nuclear weapons!! So, I think they had a plan of retaliation ready if something else happened. The retaliation was never mentioned in the news!
mraf Posted November 10, 2017 #2 Posted November 10, 2017 This is like reading something from INFOwars. Like OBEWAN says "move along there is nothing to see here".
Yammer Dan Posted November 10, 2017 #3 Posted November 10, 2017 We didn't do enough. Like our time in Nam. We could have ended it any time and saved a bunch of lives but.........
cowpuc Posted November 10, 2017 #4 Posted November 10, 2017 Absolutely fascinating story Sky!! I have been reading Bill O' Reilly's book called "Killing Patton" and am about 3/4 thru it = also amazing... To bad we were not ready to listen to General Patton (just say NO to Stalin about his future plans for taking over Europe).. Thanks for sharing BlueSky!!! Also,, THANK YOU for your service to God and Country in the continual exhausting effort of keeping evil from destroying our way of life!! Thanks brother!!
