cruiserlover Posted October 30, 2017 #1 Posted October 30, 2017 It was 73 today.Going to be 720-87 next few days.Great riding weather.I also have some electric stuff to try out.How often do you drain antifreeze and what type do you use? Also I read where a guy customized his second gen and the cooling fins are removeable.I would think some sort of bolt holes would be left.I like the fake fins look myself.
Gary N. Posted October 31, 2017 #2 Posted October 31, 2017 FYI those fins hold some rubber stoppers in place that will drain the coolant from the cylinder jackets faster then you can say it, if you're not careful. Those holes would have to be drilled, tapped and plugged to run without the fake fins.

Flyinfool Posted October 31, 2017 #4 Posted October 31, 2017 Those fins are totally fake and their only purpose in life is to hold in the rubber plugs. Otherwise they are strictly cosmetic. So feel free to modify them to your taste. But as mentioned above, they either must be there or some other means must be provided to prevent instant coolant loss when the plugs blow out. Not to mention that that hot coolant will dump right on your legs.

I dont intend removing them, and I for sure have no clue what the holes could be plugged with.I just always want to customize everything.I need to leave things alone. These ventures dont lend themselves to customizing.Mine looks good asis, just never liked the 2 tone silver. But that is a whole different topic.

One thing you could do is have Mike Eykamp, The Diamond Cut Guy, modify a set of fins for you, he has an add here that shows on the top banner or your can go here http://www.thediamondcutguy.com/ he does some nice work.
baylensman Posted November 1, 2017 #7 Posted November 1, 2017 The triangular pattern of the bolts holding the fins on would adapt easily to the mkV flux capacitor from Fugikowa industries!!

I really like the color combo in the web picture too.I want to do mine like that.
M61A1MECH Posted November 1, 2017 #10 Posted November 1, 2017 The “dog bones” are the front supports that come off the top front part of the finned covers. We call them dog bone because they sort of look like one.
baylensman Posted November 2, 2017 #13 Posted November 2, 2017 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=110816 neat effect did you paint the fins and dog bones to match the tank or is the camera just picking up all that blue?
vzuden Posted November 2, 2017 #14 Posted November 2, 2017 Not my bike. The picture was the work of the diamondcut guy and I am pretty sure he cut the fins after someone had painted them to match the bike
