Feul warning light not coming on when it should

Hi all,

This morning I was on my way to work knowing I needed gas before too long. Anyway, the RSV starts to crap out on me, switch it to reserve and all went back to normal.

Issue is that the "F" and the yellow fuel warning light didn't come on until maybe 2 miles later.

 

Usually I get the "F" first, and then another 5 miles before it starts to crap out and I need to change the pickup over.

 

Any ideas??

The thermsistor on the sending unit in the tank has went bad, you can replace the whole thing or just the thermistor. Here is a link to a previous thread about it.

Have noticed this on my RSV as well. Thanks for tip Joe. According to service manual, fuel meter display will point to fault. If fuel meter startup sequence stops with illuminated "Empty" bar, then "Fuel Sender". If sequence stops with illuminated "Full" bar, then "Fuel Thermistor".

Interesting, MD.....my 05 RSV always runs out of fuel first, then I switch to reserve. Never seen any lights or other warnings nor have I ever seen an error message as listed in the manual.

 

I just shrug and ride on...

Hmm... Trying to recall sequence on my RSV. Believe I get a "F" and mileage count when I get low. When I notice F or when motorcycle sputters, start the auxiliary transfer pump on trike. Takes a few minutes for RSV to recognize new level and restore mileage to pre-event state. Used to get a low fuel light, which I haven't seen in a while.
