Raven1294 Posted October 4, 2017 #1 Posted October 4, 2017 So whats the easiest slip on exhaust to install on an 05 RSTD? Is there one where you take the stock ones off slide on the new ones using all the stock mounts etc? and which one's do you all suggest, I like loud but want them to sound really good, not just loud, or just really good....Thanks
vzuden Posted October 4, 2017 #2 Posted October 4, 2017 I had Baron 4-2-4's on my RSTD. They are loud and sound good. Simple to slip on
Raven1294 Posted October 4, 2017 Author #3 Posted October 4, 2017 Thanks! any need for rejetting or adjusting the carbs?
vzuden Posted October 5, 2017 #4 Posted October 5, 2017 No. Ran like a top to 50,000 miles. I pulled them off when I traded it in on my new one and put back the original mufflers. Sold them to one of our members and I'm pretty sure he's still running with them. I did repack them before I sold them as I was planning on putting them on the new bike but went with Harley take offs instead.
Raven1294 Posted October 5, 2017 Author #5 Posted October 5, 2017 I take these are the ones you are talking about? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Baron-4-2-4-Nasty-Boy-Slip-On-Mufflers-Chrome-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-99-10-/191277266700 do you need to order the exhaust tips? or does it look good just the way they are....Thanks
baylensman Posted October 5, 2017 #6 Posted October 5, 2017 On my 07 RSV I take them off and on with the seasons. I have a set of Harley slips ons. Someone here made brackets at one point. what you'll need is a pair of clamps for the front the P clamp has to be big enough the holes will accept whatever size bolt goes into he back of the slip on. then clamp around the rear support rail for the rear bags. it was easy.
Gary N. Posted October 5, 2017 #7 Posted October 5, 2017 I have Bubs mufflers on mine with Harley fishtail tips. Takes a little effort to install the Harley tips but the mufflers are bolt on. The mufflers have fiberglass packing which does burn out in time but is easy to repack or run without if you like.
Kretz Posted October 5, 2017 #8 Posted October 5, 2017 I have LA Choppers on my 2009 RSTD. they are a perforated tube inside that I wrapped. Very easy to install, all brackets are on the pipes, straight plug & play after removing the old ones. Sound growly (there are a few You Tubes out there) but not too raucous I'm thinking of putting the stock ones back on as Leo's around here are starting to be silly about loud pipes & the courts are saying "if the police SAY it's too loud then it IS too loud" no measurements are needed. All done on a leo's word.
vzuden Posted October 6, 2017 #9 Posted October 6, 2017 I take these are the ones you are talking about? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Baron-4-2-4-Nasty-Boy-Slip-On-Mufflers-Chrome-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-99-10-/191277266700 do you need to order the exhaust tips? or does it look good just the way they are....Thanks i had the tips on all the time so I can't really say whether I would have like them without. They rotate via a set screw so you can direct them to any angle you want
djh3 Posted October 6, 2017 #10 Posted October 6, 2017 Least expensive, and easiest way to go are Harley Road King or other Harley touring bikes. Drop by the local HD shop and you can probably get a pair of take offs for little to nothing.
Raven1294 Posted October 6, 2017 Author #11 Posted October 6, 2017 Thanks everyone for all the recommendations, I went with the Baron Nasty boys 4.2.4 ordered them yesterday.
Raven1294 Posted October 9, 2017 Author #12 Posted October 9, 2017 One thing I did leave out is that I am currently using the K&N filters with that in mind is there still no need rejetting using the Baron 4.2.4 nasty boy slip on's? Anyone here think its a better idea to rejet?.....Thanks
mm482 Posted October 10, 2017 #13 Posted October 10, 2017 I have K&N filters and have had a couple different typesof aftermarket mufflers, no need to rejet.
Raven1294 Posted October 14, 2017 Author #15 Posted October 14, 2017 Is this really how its suppose to look after installing the Baron 4-2-4 slip on's? The clamp is exposed and looks really bad the pipes won't slip on any further due to the heat shield welded right at the edge where it should slide under.
vzuden Posted October 14, 2017 #16 Posted October 14, 2017 You can purchase wide chrome clamps to use instead of those. I am not close to my bike right now but I think those I have are 1 1/2 inches wide
Raven1294 Posted October 14, 2017 Author #17 Posted October 14, 2017 Thanks Any good place on line to order those clamps? Wonder why they don't give you those to begin with.
TDbiker Posted October 16, 2017 #18 Posted October 16, 2017 Thanks Any good place on line to order those clamps? Wonder why they don't give you those to begin with. Here are the ones I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Muffler-Step-Clamps-1-pair/252884916460 Good luck.
Raven1294 Posted October 16, 2017 Author #19 Posted October 16, 2017 Here are the ones I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Muffler-Step-Clamps-1-pair/252884916460 Good luck. Thanks! Those are very nice
Raven1294 Posted November 13, 2017 Author #20 Posted November 13, 2017 So one of you guys want to tell me how you got these to fit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Muffl...r/252884916460 paid over $50 for them and they don't fit, a tad too small This is the size in the add 1 3/4 I.D. X 1 7/8 I.D. and are about 1.5" wide.
Rotten Posted November 16, 2017 #21 Posted November 16, 2017 The Vtwin clamps, take the bolt out insert a flathead screwdriver to spread and slide over the muffler, then slide the muffler and clamp over the pipe done. It would help if you used some muffler paste or whatever its called
vzuden Posted November 17, 2017 #22 Posted November 17, 2017 Agreed. That is what I did with mine. I think I used a little moly lube. I don’t think you will need to open them up much
Raven1294 Posted November 27, 2017 Author #23 Posted November 27, 2017 Thanks everyone, I tried prying it open and got it to slip onto the exhaust but its opened up too much to put the screw back in and it was tight sliding it on so it does not appear that those clamps will work with that exhaust.
Rotten Posted November 27, 2017 #24 Posted November 27, 2017 measure the inside diameter of the clamps and the outside of the slipon
ese Posted April 23, 2018 #25 Posted April 23, 2018 I know im late to the game but these are what I put on my LA Choppers. https://www.jpcycles.com/product/4400200/chrome-allen-type-exhaust-clamps
