cowpuc Posted October 4, 2017 #2 Posted October 4, 2017 I finally got around to fixing that suspension squeak that was driving me nuts. So put together this little video for your entertainment. Enjoy! @stanG Almost missed this somehow,,, now I gotta make up for lost time... Heyyyyy,,, I thought you was a radio announcer - never did know you was a movie star too Stang!!!:dancefool: Very very well done ya lop eared Venture torturing varmint!!! So,, now I gotta ask,, did you find removal of the rear shock doable just by removing the left side cover, air controls and sneaking in with a socket (of course, removing the linkage on the underside) or is getting that top out and in more involved than that?? Only ask cause I gotta a pretty good sneaking hunch that I am going to have to replace Tweeks rear shock.. Those last couple jumps the three of us took out CTFW in the back roads of the Flaming Gorge did something under there...
stanG Posted October 4, 2017 Author #3 Posted October 4, 2017 Full disclosure.... I did have to remove: Both exhaust pipes Both side covers Both side bags Seat Bottom assembly (or dogbone) Most of the bolts are fairly accessible at this point except you will need an extension and a universal joint to sneak in on both sides of the top bolt on the shock. Once you release the air hose from the clips on the rear fender it drops right out the bottom. I can't see how it could be easier going out the top. You would have to remove the gas tank and maybe the rear fender to get it out. On re-assembly you do have enough clearance to get your hand in there to put in the top bolt, but you have to use the extension with the universal to start the nut. I put a little grease in the socket to hold it in there until I got the threads started.
