Mover Posted September 18, 2017 #1 Posted September 18, 2017 When I'm riding with a passenger I turn the Intercom setting to between 15 and 17 but as a result I hear a lot of gear whine thru my headset. Our headsets are the J&M 279 series. My passenger says she doesn't hear the gear whine thru her headset. When soloing riding the Intercom setting is zero and I don't hear the gear whine thru my headset. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Is there a solution? Thanks Mover
Freebird Posted September 18, 2017 #2 Posted September 18, 2017 That's pretty common. Especially at that volume level. I typically keep mine around 12 or so. That is why a lot of us use the Mic Mutes though. Most of what you hear is being picked up by the microphones. Turning them off when you aren't using them makes a lot of difference.
videoarizona Posted September 18, 2017 #3 Posted September 18, 2017 Mover, is it gear whine or electrical whine? Both go up and down in pitch with engine speed. If you can hear it sitting still with motor reving, it's electrical. That usually means a poor ground. Split fairing and clean audio connectors. If it's gear whine, turn down your auto leveling on the audio. It tends to increase volume when you aren't talking, making the road/ engine noise louder. Suggestions that may help...
djh3 Posted September 20, 2017 #4 Posted September 20, 2017 I go with electrical whine. I had the issue pretty good. I went behind the fairing and cleaned the connectors for the radio and intercom where they all come together on the right hand side by the back of the fairing. I think I also may have checked the routing to make sure wires were not running by ignition wires. If you have the clutch whine it will be there all the time
