Ohedron42 Posted April 23, 2008 #1 Posted April 23, 2008 :confused24::confused24:I have to change my plugs. Sea Foam has done its work. However, NONE of the plug sockets or regular metric sockets will fit. Is there a special socket one must get? Does it have to be "thin wall"? What am I doing wrong? Thank you all in advance for helping with my "stupidity"!!! Or silliness, you choose! Thanks Ohedron42

Thanks Ohedron42 18MM deep socket will do the trick, I normally use a U joint between that & the ratchet, to give just enough height.
GeorgeS Posted April 23, 2008 #3 Posted April 23, 2008 3/8 drive deep socket, with 1 inch extension, and use a 3/8 ratchet with a Swivil head. Best combo I have found. Be sure to blow out holes with compressed air, so junk does not fall into the hole.
Squeeze Posted April 23, 2008 #4 Posted April 23, 2008 There are Plugs with 16 mm on the Market also.
BOO Posted April 23, 2008 #5 Posted April 23, 2008 Yeah it does take one of the thinner walled sockets. Some of the cheaper ones won't fit in there. If you have the tool kit, the socket in there should work fine. Jerry
Ohedron42 Posted April 23, 2008 Author #6 Posted April 23, 2008 Thanks Guys!! I feel like a stoopid monkey. Unfortunately I do NOT have the tool kit. I wish I did. But I will be making one, the ones on ebay are just to expensive. So, Thin walled, 3/8 drive with a swivel and one inch extention. Thank you all gentlemen. I deeply appreciate it. Ohedron42
hipshot Posted April 23, 2008 #7 Posted April 23, 2008 i took a standard 18MM socket, and ground it down on the lower half, so that it just fits into the tapered hole. 1inch extension, just to break the plug loose. then i use a piece of vacuum hose to unscrew the plugs, and to start the new ones back in. just jt
Yammer Dan Posted April 23, 2008 #8 Posted April 23, 2008 3/8 Drive rachet, thin walled 18mm socket and I use a spring U-joint. No problems at all but there are easier plugs to change.
loehring Posted April 23, 2008 #9 Posted April 23, 2008 Here you go. $25 as of right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royale-Tool-pouch-with-all-Tools_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ009QQitemZ190217066255QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Ohedron42 Posted April 24, 2008 Author #10 Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks to everyone for your help. In the end, I had to go to a Yamaha shop and get a 3.99 tool. but it was too short and the heads were in the way. So I went to checker and got a T-handle spark plug wrench and welded the suckers together!! Worked like a charm. Changed them thar plugs in less then 15 mins!!! Again, Thanks for all the help. Ohedron42 merlin:)
Saddle_Bag Posted April 27, 2008 #11 Posted April 27, 2008 The whole thing can be fixed when you buy the new plugs. Auto lite or Champion plugs come in the 5/8" variety. 18mm is tight while the 5/8" gives you lots of room. joe
