During the endless coverage of Hurricane Irma, I heard a report about the Waffle House index. Evidently FEMA uses amongst other things to determine the effects of severe weather, the Waffle House index.

This index is based on rather or not Waffle House is closed or not in any given area. If they are, you are in a red zone. If they are opened but serving a reduced menu you are in a orange or yellow zone. If they are open and serving a full menu you are in a green zone. If you are in a red zone, that is a very very bad thing and you are probably also under marshal law.

Well evidently I'm in a green zone because my Waffle House is open and serving a full menu albeit they seemed to be slammed by Waffle House standards. My power is still out after 19 hours but at least my Waffle House is up and running. Looks like scattered, smothered and covered for me for a while longer.
