Thanks Governor Deal

For the two free days off work. I got phone call, text messages and emails yesterday informing me that Governor Deal had graciously given me two free days off work today and tomorrow due to the residual effects of Hurricane Irma. So what if it was raining and blowing all day at least I didn't have to go in.

 

I was pretty much getting caught up on my binge watching until the power blinked off about A hour ago. Found a tree down at the end of my road that was just big enough to snag the power lines. Besides the leaf debris all over my yard there was no other damage. So, now I'm wondering what folks did before electricity. With all the storm related tree damage I'm afraid it may be days before the power comes back on.

 

Better get off the phone and save batteries.

I think they worked 7 days a week dawn to dusk just to survive. Average life expectancy was about 40 yrs I think.

I do not have to wonder, half of my relatives did not have electricity or indoor plumbing when I was growing up. I always loved staying at my Aunt Mary's, we would help with the chores, go hunting or fishing. Meals cooked on her gigantic wood stove always seemed to taste better, especially the time my uncle killed the rooster chasing my sister and we had it for dinner. I could have done without the risk of splinters when you went to the bathroom or taking a bath in the cold spring water. Now if I loose cell service I feel inconvenienced, maybe those were not the good ole days but they were much simpler.

49.5 hours and counting. That more than a whole work week by 9.5 hours.

I must be an upper income elite since I had a Generac unit installed two years ago. Before that I had a 10kw portable generator that woudl handle most of my immediate needs but this kicks on almost instantly and all is well in the household. Have bennefitted from it four times and can't say enough about it. Oh and my neighbor appreciates the 10kw unit to keep his cows watered.

You will like it and they can be had at Lowe's/Home Depot for zero interest. About $8000-$10000 installed depending on conditions. My neighbor went with Lowe's, I went with Home Depot.
