Freebird Posted September 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2017 I was pleasantly surprised when I added the Spyder onto my motorcycle policy. I not only added the Spyder but also added Eileen as an additional driver. My total premium increase was $18.44 per year. Adding the Spyder restored my "multi-bike" discount. So now my total annual cost (RSV and Spyder) is $94.44 per year.

Kretz Posted September 9, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2017 That's what we pay here in BC around $1100 per bike. No multi-bike policies (even though you can only ride one at a time) & our new Prov. Gov't has just decreed that insurance rates will increase by an average of $130/ year per policy! This increase due to huge losses, as a result of mismanagement in our (only) Provincial Insurer & bonuses paid to the fat cats running it, Oh! & the 100 million $$$ siphoned off into general revenue by the Gov't! BlueSky Posted September 9, 2017 Share #7 Posted September 9, 2017 The insurance on my Kawasaki in WI was half what it is in NC. I was told that it was due to the longer riding season? May also have to do with many more illegals in NC driving without insurance causing the uninsured/underinsured costs to skyrocket.
BIG TOM Posted September 9, 2017 Share #8 Posted September 9, 2017 Mine went up $220.00 a year by adding my Spyder......2 bikes.... $780.00 a year.
Freebird Posted September 9, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted September 9, 2017 Yes, my $95.00 per year to cover both bikes is liability only. Full coverage on the Spyder would have raised my premium by $152.00 per year. I've never carried anything but liability on my bikes.

If you lived in Tomato country I am sure you would have full coverage specially since sometimes softballs fall from the sky.
Sylvester Posted September 9, 2017 Share #11 Posted September 9, 2017 Yes you are right. I pay $400.00 per year for my '02 RSMV and only have liability. It really has to do with the state controlled insurance similar to Canada. The insurance on my Kawasaki in WI was half what it is in NC. I was told that it was due to the longer riding season? cowpuc Posted September 10, 2017 Share #12 Posted September 10, 2017 Yes you are right. I pay $400.00 per year for my '02 RSMV and only have liability. It really has to do with the state controlled insurance similar to Canada. Got that Sly!! Here in Michigan we had a Govnur not to long ago named Jennifer Grandholm who held to some fairly socialistic views on things - rumor was she actually was from a foreign country where she learned her socialist ways that she tried very hard to impliment here.. During her reign, and still to this day, we are under this idea of No Fault insurance - simply means no one is expected to (or even desired to) step up to the plate and accept personal responsibility for their actions = sound familiar? Out of this whole idea came this thing called The Michigan Catastrophic Fund that,, along with paying for a policy for "No Fault Insurance" where no one is ever at fault in an accident = we are required to pay into this "FUND" every 6 months.. Last I looked,, I believe that cost is 176 dollar per 6 months PER policy or, over 300 dollars a year per car/bike just for the fund.. Meaning,, 2 bikes insured = 2 x 176 per 6 months + 2 cars insured? = 2 more x 176 every 6 months.. Now,, keep in mind that "$176 per 6 months" on ALL policys in Michigan has NOTHING to do with your actual policy = the policy costs start AFTER you pay the $176 per 6 months PER vehicle!! Sound nuts? Now get ready cause it gets even better!! On a motorcycle that I have paid my $176 + my policy fee's for a 6 month policy - if I get in an accident on my scoot and the accident does not involve a car = I have NO access to the Catastrophic Fund (medical costs) that is suppose to kick in after a certain amount of medical care is received. JUST NUTS!! Thankfully,, after 8 years the people of the state of Michigan FINALLY decided they had had enough and they decided to cast a vote to return the State back to the people and they kicked Grandholm to the curb.. We now have a fairly level headed American in charge who has been challenging that crazy Catastrophic Fund law. He has also ushered back in the right to bear arms (Concealed Weapons Permits FINALLY approved), has appealed the helmet laws = returned "Choice" back to the riders and, get this,,, we are know able to know how freedom feels by his returning the right for us to light fire crackers and bottle rockets if we want:happy34:!! We still are paying out the nose for Insurance but by cracky,, at least real freedom seems a little closer and the seems to be waving a little prouder these days here in Michigan - IMHO of course!!

BlueSky Posted September 10, 2017 Share #14 Posted September 10, 2017 Yes you are right. I pay $400.00 per year for my '02 RSMV and only have liability. It really has to do with the state controlled insurance similar to Canada. I paid just over $400 for both my bikes just for liability. So, you might want to check around. If your max coverage is much higher than the minimum that may be why yours is costing more. Right now, I'm paying less than $200 for just the Kawasaki and I don't have the minimums. I don't know about present day but bike insurance used to vary quite a bit between companies.
Kretz Posted September 10, 2017 Share #15 Posted September 10, 2017 How is it that private insurance can offer these great rates but Gov't/ State/ Province insurers are crazy money. My Liability only is Cdn $$880 & that's with maximum age/ good driver bonuses of $665 so without that 43% reduction it would be $1545!!!!!!!!!!!!! Liability ONLY

snyper316 Posted September 11, 2017 Share #18 Posted September 11, 2017 Also Right now I am using Geico, but was in shock when my renewal came due there was no change in the premium. I remember several months ago I was paying ridicoulous rates and just kept looking and finally got what I needed, now to start shopping around again to see if I can find a better rate... fun fun. but all you can do really unless you got CND and MIchigan going on... that is pure craziness!!!
