cruiserlover Posted September 1, 2017 #1 Posted September 1, 2017 I think maxxim yamaha in plano texas has one.I did not think any would be available.perhaps i read wrong or its just to show and not sell.I know many people are mad about it being a vtwin. That to me is like being mad because a camaro went from a straight 6 to a sbc. The vtwin hopefully has been gone through to fix anything that might break before it reaches 100,000 road miles. Unlike harley. I love harleys, just dont want one.I have owned 2 before including an ultra classic. The spec sheet says 947 pounds. My 99 weighs about 850.I can't imagine adding another 100 pounds. I considered briefly once buying a 2000 cc vulcan. But some bikes are just too heavy. If this new venture doesnt have terrific geometry and balance all the fancy features in the world won't make a difference. It reminds me of the bmw 1600 gtl. Loaded with stuff. In the most recent survey bmw and ducati ranked the top2 least reliable motorcycle companies with failure of something major in the first 4 years of ownership at 26% compared to 11% for yamaha, which ranked #1 in most reliable. I bet it is beautiful though.I do admit, my 99 is topheavy, a chore to pull up off the sidestand, a ***** to turn around in my driveway, but once moving its great as we all know. I personally do not enjoy riding my motorcycle in town due to its weight and unwieldly handling at slow speed. But transcontinental does show what the venture is intended for. Intown, i would just own a kickstart 400 if that was my riding habit predominantly.
cowpuc Posted September 1, 2017 #2 Posted September 1, 2017 Hey Cruze,,, I for one sincerely hope that you do indeed get a chance to demo the new one - I am ANXIOUSLY waiting your thoughts... Something I would be interested in,, you mention how hard it is to get your 2nd Gen off the kickstand = please pay special attention to comparing the new one with this in mind.. I did with my 1st Gen and would be interested in your thoughts on 2nd vs 3rd.. You taking a passenger with you?? If so,, maybe also do a report back from their perspective - lots of folks are asking about that info.. Hope it works out for you to test em, while I am still pretty miffed about Star using the V-Twin instead of the 1700cc V-Max motor (I would be one of those bone heads who are on the other end of your "That to me is like being mad because a camaro went from a straight 6 to a sbc" comment - the way I see it - THAT is exactly what Star did - went to a six popper when I was used to 350 Chevy!! LOL) I still really like the bike and hope it sells well!! I am going over to demo the new Water Cooled Harleys (amazing - HD is going water cooled and Star/Yam is going Air LOL) this weekend hopefully.. Will also try to get a report up on those - maybe by Sunday we can have a really good comparison going on...
Flyinfool Posted September 1, 2017 #3 Posted September 1, 2017 It was my impression that the "water cooled" HD was just cooling the exhaust valve, the rest is still air cool. But I could be wrong since I am not a big follower of HDs.

Kind of puzzling too cause even with just the watercooled exhaust valve they gotta have radiators, water pump, over flow res and plumbing.. May as well just went ahead and cooled the thing.. Was yakkin with one of the factory guys recently about it and said that to him - he made it absolutely clear that the next step - of cooling the entire heads - was already planned and would be very easily accomplished.. He also reminded me that the traditionalist in their world are kind of sensitive about this stuff and the Motor Company has to take baby steps as they move forward with water cooling = his words not mine..

I can see that, I'll bet the HD guys would revolt to the presence of a big radiator just as much as we revolted to lack of one. Maybe the bike world will flip flop, HD will end up making water cooled V4s and we will all migrate there, and Yamaha will go to air cooled v twins and draw the HD crowd........
