grubsie Posted August 31, 2017 #1 Posted August 31, 2017 An updated intake manifold with a single carb conversion? https://nh.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1986-yamaha-venture-1300-with/6256460518.html
videoarizona Posted September 1, 2017 #2 Posted September 1, 2017 I just sent link to a friend to ask about it.....if he gets the chance. If he replies, I'll let ya'all know.
Flyinfool Posted September 1, 2017 #3 Posted September 1, 2017 There is such a thing. With one exception, those that have tried it were not impressed.
RDawson Posted September 1, 2017 #4 Posted September 1, 2017 There's a conversion manifold on eBay that uses a VW carb. It has pics.
Flyinfool Posted September 1, 2017 #5 Posted September 1, 2017 The one on ebay with the VW carb is the one that no one has had great results with, It is functional and the bike will run, but you have to choose whether you want it to run good at speed or have some get up and go, pick only one. The one that did seem to work was a one off that a member here made for himself using a ford 2bbl carb.
bongobobny Posted September 1, 2017 #6 Posted September 1, 2017 A linked carb intake system will never work as good as individual carbs for each piston! That being said FI is the ultimate answer...
RDawson Posted September 1, 2017 #7 Posted September 1, 2017 I agree. I just posted it so he could see a pic of one since he asked.
GaryZ Posted September 1, 2017 #8 Posted September 1, 2017 A linked carb intake system will never work as good as individual carbs for each piston! That being said FI is the ultimate answer... I am confused by this statement. If it is true, why didn't cars have 4 - 6 - 8 single carbs before EFI?
camos Posted September 1, 2017 #9 Posted September 1, 2017 I am confused by this statement. If it is true, why didn't cars have 4 - 6 - 8 single carbs before EFI?Probably not very many had multiple carbs but many 4 cylinder Brit sports cars had dual carbs and the Jaguar XKE had 6 cylinders with 6 carbs. Keeping the Jags in sync was a total PITA.
Kretz Posted September 1, 2017 #10 Posted September 1, 2017 I am confused by this statement. If it is true, why didn't cars have 4 - 6 - 8 single carbs before EFI? Probably due to cost mostly I would think & back when only "sports/ performance" cars had multi carbs. (in the UK anyway)
bongobobny Posted September 1, 2017 #11 Posted September 1, 2017 Well, Gary Z, there WAS instances where 8 cylinder engines had the equivalent of 8 carbs, such as a dual 4 bbl set up. But yes, only in racing cars did you find a single carb for each cylinder. In the mean time, here are a few articles... https://books.google.com/books?id=dYfbZrla6QQC&pg=PA34&lpg=PA34&dq=which+is+better,+a+carburetor+for+each+cylinder+or+a+carburetor+shared+by+several+cylinders?&source=bl&ots=1DF-jq-DJS&sig=w_vCNhQSPdn39i8-_1DinZzq8rc&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi6t_22xYTWAhXE4IMKHTHsC1MQ6AEIWzAI#v=onepage&q=which%20is%20better%2C%20a%20carburetor%20for%20each%20cylinder%20or%20a%20carburetor%20shared%20by%20several%20cylinders%3F&f=false Actually, why don't you ask Enzo Ferarri why HE built his cars with individual carburetors for each cylinder??
bongobobny Posted September 1, 2017 #12 Posted September 1, 2017 Probably not very many had multiple carbs but many 4 cylinder Brit sports cars had dual carbs and the Jaguar XKE had 6 cylinders with 6 carbs. Keeping the Jags in sync was a total PITA.So were the early Austin Healy's...
Flyinfool Posted September 1, 2017 #13 Posted September 1, 2017 And dont forget the Pontiac 6 packs. So even in cars when you wanted performance you had a lot of carbs.
