The one on ebay with the VW carb is the one that no one has had great results with, It is functional and the bike will run, but you have to choose whether you want it to run good at speed or have some get up and go, pick only one.

 

The one that did seem to work was a one off that a member here made for himself using a ford 2bbl carb.

A linked carb intake system will never work as good as individual carbs for each piston! That being said FI is the ultimate answer...

Probably not very many had multiple carbs but many 4 cylinder Brit sports cars had dual carbs and the Jaguar XKE had 6 cylinders with 6 carbs. Keeping the Jags in sync was a total PITA.

Probably due to cost mostly I would think & back when only "sports/ performance" cars had multi carbs. (in the UK anyway)

Well, Gary Z, there WAS instances where 8 cylinder engines had the equivalent of 8 carbs, such as a dual 4 bbl set up. But yes, only in racing cars did you find a single carb for each cylinder. In the mean time, here are a few articles...

Actually, why don't you ask Enzo Ferarri why HE built his cars with individual carburetors for each cylinder??
