HAZARD Posted August 22, 2017 #1 Posted August 22, 2017 I have a buddy who has gone through multiple winshields and chrome mole which helps attach it.Has anyone experienced this also and is there a cure?
XV1100SE Posted August 22, 2017 #2 Posted August 22, 2017 2nd Gen? Only time someone has broken a windscreen is if they drop the bike. Something else going on if they are breaking the windscreen. Where are the screens breaking? Is it the tabs on the bottom of the screen itself? As for the chrome trim in front of the windscreen....the plastic tabs are known to break but there is a "permanent" fix. Check the 2nd Gen read only section - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?516-Repair-of-chrome-windshield-trim Provide more info or possibly photos. I use a Clearview windscreen and could sell the OEM windscreen if someone needs one.
Marcarl Posted August 22, 2017 #3 Posted August 22, 2017 Mostly they break because either the bolts were screwed too tight or the wrong bolts were used. Either way, if the windshield is too tight, things will crack and break.
tomephil Posted August 22, 2017 #4 Posted August 22, 2017 On my 2nd gen, I'm on my 2nd clear-viewshield. 1st was my fault. Second has 2 cracks from stones. I have drilled out and the cracks are not in my line of sight so I am going with it. And FYI, don't use lock-tight anywhere near your plastic or shield. Been there, done that.
Cowboy Posted August 22, 2017 #5 Posted August 22, 2017 It is possible that the bracket / fairing frame is bent on your friends bike. I have a 2004 with 130,00o mile and never had a problem with the windshield or the chrome trim. I also have the windshield and fairing off the bike at least twice a year for cleaning all electrical connectors. Might be over kill but I can say that the radio has not had a problem. Seems like the end screw have that flimsy attachment tab. If it is broken then that could also hurt the windshield. Good Luck
djh3 Posted August 23, 2017 #6 Posted August 23, 2017 I didn't like the small washers on mine. So I went to hardware store and got some fender washers to help displace the force.
mm482 Posted August 23, 2017 #7 Posted August 23, 2017 This may help http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?20293-Repairing-Your-Broken-Fairing-Windshield-Tabs Earl
