Hi All,

Its time to get this FM radio working and Im sure its from the cut wiring that used to go to the Trunk that is no longer attached to my 04' Venture.

Perhaps its just the ground strap that needs to be reconnected (i honestly havent touched anything yet to even try it)

I went cross eyed looking at the Wiring Diagram.. So here is a long shot, but can anyone Tag which wire does what? (I'm mainly looking to get the FM radio working again)

*3rd pic has the Ground strap wrapped in tape with another wire.

Radio is up in the cowl If Im not mistaken the only wire you will need is the antenna wire , I think every thing else is for cb and intercom system. also rear speaker wires

Southbound is correct. The only thing back there that has anything to do with the stereo is the antenna. Everything else is either CB, Intercom, or passenger volume control related.

OK, there are 2 antennas that go on the back of your bike, one for the CB and one for the AM/FM antenna. The CB is on the left of the bike, and the radio on the right. One of those snipped cables is for the passenger rear volume control and intercom. Other wires are for the CB unit. There is also wiring for the rear speaker wires both left and right.

As I was looking back at your pictures, I see a couple of responses made while I am typing! Yes, they are both correct, all you really need to do to get the FM working is hook up an antenna and things should bring joy back to Mudville again!

I agree with you, the factory schematic is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine! You just need to match up the wire colors on the one side of the master connector and hope it gives you a clue to what its function is but good luck with that!

Thank you all..

*the black control box on my handlebar doesnt even light up, so I wondered if a circuit was no longer completed?

I will check the fuses and attached the ground strap and figure out what to do with the FM antenna cable

You can run another antenna line back to the antenna from the radio. Easy to do and probably buy one premade at a CB shop near some truck stops.

Or buy a twist on RF connector, an RF barrel and another RF twist on connector. Add some more wire and run that to the antenna. Yes you are adding connectors to the antenna lead, but thankfully am/fm radio doesn't really mind. As long as you get the connectors on properly, you won't add any noise...

There are a couple of fuses. The one that most people miss is inside the right lower cowling just above the crash bar. You have to remove the front of the cowling to get to it.

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, but did you turn the radio on? If you had the battery out for any length of time the radio automatically turns off...

Fixt. local electrician friend followed the wiring and we sorted what was needed vs not.

*also the BACKUP FUSE had blown, which was the culprit. was hard to see on orig inspection.
