Dragonslayer Posted July 24, 2017 #1 Posted July 24, 2017 I work for a state agency that promotes public health. That's a good thing I guess. Some of our funding comes from federal grants to promote healthy lifestyles. Also a good thing. One of those programs promotes health food choices, produce. Can't find fault in that. So this program funding is for close to two hundred thousand dollars to fund the infrastructure to sell 15 k of fresh produce to the local public. I know I'm not always the sharpest tool in the shed but, doesn't it make more sense to give away 200k worth fresh produce to the local public, And skip salaries vehicles and the like to have a mobile fruit stand one day a month.
MiCarl Posted July 24, 2017 #2 Posted July 24, 2017 This is why I have trouble understanding why people want "Washington to do something". Best case pennies on the dollar make it to the cause. And we give up some freedom in the process.
The Tooch Posted July 24, 2017 #3 Posted July 24, 2017 Just sounds like normal Goverment spending to me....
zagger Posted July 24, 2017 #4 Posted July 24, 2017 Or better yet, just let the folks who actually have the 15K worth of veggies, sell it for 15K and not grind them up at tax time. I would de-fund 90% of all gubmint activities - public health and whatever other excuse they have for draining everyone. zag
BlueSky Posted July 24, 2017 #5 Posted July 24, 2017 Many of the "charities" are as inefficient as the guvment. Lots of them end up giving high wages to the leaders and waste lots of money on "conventions" and the like. One veterans charity was exposed a few years ago for giving only 5% of the donations to the veterans, the rest going to the guy who ran the charity and his family.
