BigLenny Posted July 19, 2017 #1 Posted July 19, 2017 Haven't seen if anyone has posted this yet. Cycle World's ride review of the new bike. Interesting stuff. http://www.cycleworld.com/2018-yamaha-star-venture-luxury-touring-motorcycle-review Big Lenny
RandyR Posted July 19, 2017 #2 Posted July 19, 2017 Not a very technical write-up. More of a sales brochure designed to give your wife so she'll give you the 4-digit code to bank card.
gmarshall Posted July 19, 2017 #4 Posted July 19, 2017 Tourers like a two cylinder? External oil tank? Guess they only talked to Harley riders. This article is full of misspellings and bad grammar. Can't anyone write well anymore?
BigLenny Posted July 20, 2017 Author #5 Posted July 20, 2017 Not a very technical write-up. More of a sales brochure designed to give your wife so she'll give you the 4-digit code to bank card. I was thinking the same thing. Lol.
BigLenny Posted July 20, 2017 Author #6 Posted July 20, 2017 Did you catch the part about the heat? Yes I did. It's gonna be interesting to see if the heat issue is talked about when other magazines start doing their ride reports. If it becomes a common theme, that could be a sales issue for Yammy. But then again, if Yamaha's strategy is to draw Victory riders, then it might not be that big of a deal.

They better start sneaking $100 Bills to get a better review, with no mention of heat. I appreciate how honest the article is. It reminded me of the Newspaper in Neosho. I couldn't help but notice the comment of Cooled seats.... and no need for heated seats with the engine throwing heat at stops and on the ride.... which none of us is suprised I am sure. I have got stuck behind a few Harleys the last few days with heat indexes in the triple digits and there was this really bad one, I did better On my 150cc scooter this guy was lucky to get to the top of hills at 45mph and maybe get up to 55mph I was so glad to get off the Two lane road and hit the interstate. I don't know if this had anything to do with engine running to hot but I know the sound of a Harley.....
BigLenny Posted July 20, 2017 Author #8 Posted July 20, 2017 Here's another ride review. Motorcyclist magazine. Some strong statements here. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/2018-yamaha-star-venture-first-ride-review?src=SOC&dom=tw#page-2
RandyR Posted July 20, 2017 #11 Posted July 20, 2017 bottom line VERDICT This is the V-twin touring bike we’ve been waiting for. Plenty of character and emotional appeal, paired with modern performance and sophisticated technology. He repeated this phrase a couple of times?? Handling is exceptional, and significantly more athletic than anything else in this class. I wonder what that means?
baylensman Posted July 21, 2017 #12 Posted July 21, 2017 Heat comment is pretty amazing. Just this year Harley has rerouted and refined the exhaust on its Ultra Classic to remedy the problem and also get a little more Torque out of the bike. Could Yamaha be planning a revamped "Tuned" exhaust for next years model already? Or are they leaving a big opening for some of the after market like V&H for exhaust and some of the others for a backrest and forward controls? Are firmware updates in the works for the clunky entertainment system? My brother's harley get updates about once a months as features are added or refined! I for one think the review are mostly positive, and have definitely peaked my interest more now than last month at the beginning. Being able to drive a cruiser like a cruiser at lower RPM using torque instead of having to rev the bejesus out of the bike to get the power at almost 4000 rpm higher sounds like a winner to me!
