loudad Posted July 16, 2017 #1 Posted July 16, 2017 (edited) Original battery on trickle charge all the time. I charged the battery to 12.8 and nothing happens. I checked the 10 amp fuse and its ok. Where is the 30amp fuse located? I couldn't find it. Also it doesn't turn over at all. Oh yeah when I first tried to start it. It did crank a few times but that was it. Edited July 16, 2017 by loudad
cecdoo Posted July 16, 2017 #2 Posted July 16, 2017 I would put my money on a new battery, 10 yrs is a long time for a bike battery. Craig
Freebird Posted July 16, 2017 #3 Posted July 16, 2017 I agree. I wouldn't do another thing until I took it and had it load tested. Heck, 10 years old, I wouldn't even bother. I would just replace it. If it's not bad, it will be before too long.
BMW Posted July 16, 2017 #4 Posted July 16, 2017 You got your money's worth out of that battery. 30 amp fuse is behind the side panel that is behind the left passenger floor board mount.
Kretz Posted July 16, 2017 #5 Posted July 16, 2017 (edited) Agree on the battery dying, (especially as it cranked initially), sounds like it can no longer hold a charge. your original battery is 10 years old definitely time for a new one! Clean & check tightness of all battery, starter motor & ground connections too. Edited July 16, 2017 by Kretz
Kirby Posted July 16, 2017 #6 Posted July 16, 2017 If load test on battery checks out OK, then check the connection to the starter solenoid. It's down there behind that plastic cover on the left side behind the rear floorboard. Mine got to doing the same nearly a year ago. I cleaned the connections, put it all back together, ordered a new solenoid switch. The new one is still in the trunk!
djh3 Posted July 17, 2017 #7 Posted July 17, 2017 Contact the Gunnies book folks and also Bohannon Battery and order a new one. If you got ten years out of one that is highly unusual.

loudad Posted July 29, 2017 Author #9 Posted July 29, 2017 Hey guys I replaced the battery and it doesn't turn over. I checked the two 30amp fuses and they are both good. Where is the starter selinoid located located.
mm482 Posted July 29, 2017 #10 Posted July 29, 2017 (edited) The solenoid is at the end of the positive battery cable, about 10 inches below the battery. To get to it remove the left passenger’s floor board and side panel. The 30 amp fuse is beside the solenoid. Earl Edited July 30, 2017 by mm482
loudad Posted July 30, 2017 Author #11 Posted July 30, 2017 How do you remove the starter. I removed the starter cable from the selenoid and jumped the cable to starter and nothing. The selenoid is bad also.
Cowboy Posted July 31, 2017 #12 Posted July 31, 2017 Loudad, I had an experience last year out on the road. After installing a new battery the bike still would not start. Checking the 30amp fuses and all was good, I pulled the tank off and the plug that goes to the switch had burnt. I have also heard that one of the wires might even come loose. Not saying this is it but just double check all the plugs and wires that are under the tank. Brian Shoemaker
Condor Posted July 31, 2017 #13 Posted July 31, 2017 Can't remember... but will the bike turn over when the kill switch is off??
