Davin Posted July 10, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2017 Going for a ride on Thursday to pick up a 98 RSTD. Riding up with my brother on the RSV and we will ride a bike each on the way home. I was looking at buying either a Buell, a Roadliner or another Royal Star. Just wanted soemthing a little lighter than the RSV for a town bike. Stumbled across a 98 RSTD for $2800 US which is $3800 AU. I love the RSV so much I couldnt pass up another of these V4's at that price. Comes with the standard windshield and the baggershield in the pics. Thursday can't come quick enough. RandyR Posted July 10, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2017 Looks like a clean well kept '98. congrats on your find.
Condor Posted July 10, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2017 Nice find, but I gotta warn ya. Put two V4's together and they have a tendency to reproduce....
BlueSky Posted July 10, 2017 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2017 You are probably aware that the RSTD V4 has about 75hp instead of the 98hp in the Venture.

Davin Posted July 10, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted July 10, 2017 You are probably aware that the RSTD V4 has about 75hp instead of the 98hp in the Venture. Yeah I know they have less power. This one's going to be a daily ride to work type bike. My ride to work is short which has been putting pointless miles on the venture. tz89 Posted December 12, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 12, 2017 Yep but that can be corrected. How is that?
Chaharly Posted December 12, 2017 Share #8 Posted December 12, 2017 How is that? Weren't the rubber tubes that hold the carbs on the motor smaller in diameter? So you'd put ones on from a 99 or newer, probably modify that airbox, and maybe jet the carbs? Just my guess
BlueSky Posted December 12, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 12, 2017 The RSTD (before 2005) carbs are 28mm vs 32mm for the Venture. There may be other differences such as cams but I do not know.

This is to accommodate different air box systems, handlebar mounted instruments, dog bone upper cylinder braces and the larger carbs. Retrofitting larger carbs to a 96-01 wouldn't be easy or cheap Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

slowrollwv Posted December 17, 2017 Share #13 Posted December 17, 2017 The frames aren't that much different. I know a few that have changed motors from one to the other.
Davin Posted December 17, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted December 17, 2017 I really like the front wheel setup on your 99 as wellThat roadliner wheel looks better and improves handling. I love it. The brakes are better too, only thing that changed was the roadliner rotors but the brakes grab a lot better.
