Can the copper exhaust gaskets be reused? I thought I saw somewhere on here a thread about reusing copper washers, etc but you have to anneal them first. Of course, I can't find the thread now. Anyone have any experience with this?

The story is that I had to tear the exhaust apart on my 84 to repair a hole in one of the headers. The old gaskets look to be in good shape so I figured I'd try to reuse them if possible. Thanks!

They do wear down, if they are loose or "popping" a little bit, wrap a length of mechanics (stiff) wire around the pipe also, will help to seal it up; new ones around 10 bucks apiece.....

I just use #10 romex. I get a small leak every so often, so being che.. thrifty like I am, and having romex laying around, i tried cutting a piece that I could shape to the size of the original gasket the first time I got a leak. Worked great and cost almost nothing.

I make my own. I just buy a piece of copper pipe, cut 2 pieces about 1 1/4" long, slit one, insert the unslit one inside the slit one and solder it up.

That's it you have a new gasket
