StarRider07 Posted April 22, 2008 #1 Posted April 22, 2008 This may have been asked and answered already but I can't find it. When I plug in my headset, listening to the radio, MP3, whatever, my mike is always open. I get outside noise, if I cough, hum, or sing with the music, I hear it through my headset. Is this normal? Is the mike supposed to be open all the time? When my wife is with me and hooked up, both our mikes remain open. Mmmm, got to be carefull thinking out loud Thanks. Looking forward to your replies.
Freebird Posted April 22, 2008 #2 Posted April 22, 2008 Yes, that is normal. Some of us have added a Mic-Mute. I love mine. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=992
Gary N. Posted April 22, 2008 #3 Posted April 22, 2008 The rider/passenger mics are voice activated. You probably need to turn down the intercom volume. I believe I use to run it at about 12 or 13. Any higher and I would get a lot of wind noise through the head set.
Freebird Posted April 22, 2008 #4 Posted April 22, 2008 Gary, if that is true, then yours are different than everybody else's. I've never seen any that are voice actuated on the RSV.
stardbog Posted April 22, 2008 #5 Posted April 22, 2008 Other option is to turn mic dawn, probably your mic sensitivity is way to hi. press cb Button keep pressing select button until msg IC on LCD screen, and simply turn down with volume knob. Hope this help My Intercom volume is most of the time 0 or off, When I'm Riding 2 up I make adjastmenys on the flyfor best results. IC Volume shouldnt be more than 10 -12 othervise will pickup more wind noice.

An assumption on my part Don. I thought that they only worked when one of the people spoke but maybe they are open all the time. I guess you do learn something everyday.
AZSpyder Posted April 22, 2008 #7 Posted April 22, 2008 There seems to be a difference with the 06 and my 07. My 07 doesn't have a mike gain in the CB selection. It does have an "IC" but it's intercom volume and is accessed by pressing the "SELECT" button. With my bad ears I need to set it about 15 and make sure my mic is close to my mouth. Any louder and I get other noises too. Jerry

I have been doing that thing with turning it down and then up when I need it, however, that is a pain in the a$$ and would prefer not to have that concentration taken away from my driving.
Guest tesnevo Posted May 18, 2008 #10 Posted May 18, 2008 Definitely install the Mic mutes. Best single "UP GRADE" I have done on this bike. I only wish that it was a factory standard as it should be. One note too, solder all the connections instead of clips. You don't want to do this again or have any moisture in the connections.
ricky lopckhart Posted September 8, 2008 #11 Posted September 8, 2008 I have sometimes have alot of noise such as the whine from my engine and also some wind noise coming thru my speakers on my headset. At times it does not seem bad but at other times it really starts to bother me. Even with intercom level turned way down I sometimes hear the engine noise faintly. Do ya'll think something like this mic-mute would help in these circumstances or is there something else I might be able to do. After reading these past post is everybody with the mic-mute still satisfied?
az1103 Posted September 8, 2008 #12 Posted September 8, 2008 Try this little product, best thing since hotkakes !!!!!!! http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=IMC-5P-SWB I got two of them and don't know how I lived without them. No installation either, just plug in and enjoy!
az1103 Posted September 8, 2008 #13 Posted September 8, 2008 also, if you look further on the same site you will find little plastic caps which you can put on your mike and cut back on the wind noise. They work OK too.
