baylensman Posted June 26, 2017 #1 Posted June 26, 2017 I know i read a post years back about the LEDS in the factory wing being too dim or quitting altogether. I can't find the post on repairing replacing that led strip> It may have been on another (GASP!) forum. Any input on how to replace it?
M61A1MECH Posted June 26, 2017 #2 Posted June 26, 2017 Could be just poor connections, I have seen more than a few of those trunk lights wired to where all the installer did was to jam the stripped end of the lead into the back side of the connector under the seat where the main harness and fender harness are joined. That incidental connection is prone to corrosion and thus high resistance causing poor performance. If you happen to find that is the issue, one of my break out harnesses may help the issue by allowing a fresh connection to the break out wires. But I will say the LEDs that Yamaha used in the wing lights really leave a lot to be desired. You may be able to open the strip up and replace with better LEDs, I did that on my Goldwing light bar in the spoiler, but it was a pain to get apart as the joint where the lens met the base was ultrasonically welded and very difficult to split and put back together. Keep us posted on what you learn and how you fix it.
