This incident happened on Wednesday but I didn't see the video until today. A car cut into the car pool lane and cut off a motorcycle. The rider then kicked the side of the car which tried to bump the motorcycle and then lost control, hit the median and swerved back into traffic hitting a truck causing it to flip over. Very dramatic. The video in the link shows what happened in full the second time around, a little before half way.

Apart from the dramatic escalation from a little retribution to a serious incident, what caught my attention was that most of the videos I saw posted by news media did not show the part that led up to the kick. Seems to me that the kick was somewhat justified however, the video does point out that no matter how you feel when getting cut off by an inattentive cager it is best to suck it up and let it go.

It's a crazy world we live in.

I think the lesson here is that when you encounter an idiot on the road the best course of action is to create lots of distance.

I had to dig around to find video from before the kick too. Presumably a car lane changing on top of a motorcycle isn't news, where the biker kicking a car leading to an impressive crash is. Man bites dog, you know.

The motorcyclist had some incredible skills. In addition to kicking the car at freeway speed he managed to keep his cool and navigate the crash and debris field.

Do you have a link to "The rest of the story"?
I haven't seen anything more than the story and video in my post. There was an interview with the guy in the truck who came out of it amazingly well. Virtually no mention of the driver in the car.

From what I read it sounds like they are looking for the biker to hit him with hit and run. To an extent I can understand him leaving, someone just tried to kill me I would not stick around either.

I would really love to hear what the people in the SUV in front of the video taker have to say about what happened since they were in the best position to see it happening.

If you expect justice on the road while riding a bike, you are expecting too much. With a small movement of your right wrist, you can eliminate interference from nearby cars. Kicking cars is just nuts and will get nothing in return. Just peel out and leave 'em!

Having spent many years commuting around a major metro area (Chicago) this has crossed my mind many times; but as the video shows it can end very badly. Normal "remedy" is a dirty look, a hand gesture and GTFO of there before the other driver wants to take you out. No reason to risk your life AGAIN because of someone aloof on the road.

I would hesitate to say the motorcyclist 'caused' the accident. The accident was caused by the car driver trying to whip his car into the motorcycle at high speed (which is attempted murder) and oversteering into the median guard and then rebounding into the pickup.

Exactly my thoughts. What led up to ticking the biker off to make him kick the door? I know I have gotten off of my scoot more than once and had to educated a cager on driver etiquette. You try and run me off the road, that is a threat to my life. My response just may come in a .40 cal round. I take that kind of horse hockey very seriously.

Was online racing last night in my league. One of my fellow members that rides up in New England reminded me of the old way. Back when you had to carry extra plugs because we fouled them out (I had a RD 350 2 stroke). He said to pitch a spark plug or lug nut at the windshield.

Don't know what led to the "kick" but generally in my experience bikers do not do that sort of thing for no reason.

I agree best just to get out of the way of these morons. That bike rider sure has some skills. The accident was caused imo by an idiot cager trying "to show who's boss" & in the attempt losing control of his vehicle, & that was nothing to do with the biker.

Not excusing the kick at all, he shouldn't have done it, & as has been said, best to shake your head & GTF out of there! My phrase is "Not today a$$hole, go have your accident with someone else, not me!"

The biker had great instincts to avoid the car that abruptly swerved to his lane and was very lucky that he did not go down. As for the cager, that move was to intentionally hurt the rider in some shape or form. Unfortunately, it ended up to be a very ugly outcome for the cager and motorists around the accident. Just another bad incident that we all have to learn and avoid and hopefully it never happens again.

In an interview with the guy who recorded the footage, he said the car moved out of the HOV lane and hit the motorcycle. The biker recovered and confronted the car driver through the passenger side windows then kicked the door. This was when the videographer thought to start recording.

The biker then backed off and accelerated on the left to start the what was seen in the video footage.

This is all 3rd hand info from several different sources.
