roadwarrior Posted April 21, 2008 #1 Posted April 21, 2008 I was visiting a shop that specializes in custom Motorcyle and vintage car seats.I have a pearl 2006 RSTD and ask his opionon about recovering my saddle with tan leather. He thought it would look great but warned me that most all bikes other than custom choppers have black seats and it may effect the resale value.I have seen RSV's with the tan leather and personally like the way they looked.Any thoughts regarding breaking the norm or pics of bike with the tan leather saddles?
autopilot Posted April 21, 2008 #2 Posted April 21, 2008 I've seen 'wings with blue seats, red seats, oxblood seats. The MM Venture has tan. and these Valkyries..... I think your guy is off-base. Besides, it's a personal choice...preference...it's your bike. have what you want.
Redneck Posted April 21, 2008 #3 Posted April 21, 2008 Go for it the tan seats look great if I was not so cheap mine would be wearing a tan saddle.
juggler Posted April 22, 2008 #4 Posted April 22, 2008 Well it really depends on the color scheme of the bike. Some colors look better with tan seats. Others are just ugly. If you plan to sell the bike in a few years, you can always pick up an other set of seats to recover and keep the stocks seats for resale.
BuddyRich Posted April 22, 2008 #5 Posted April 22, 2008 I had mine recovered from black to light gray. Didn't want to go sit on a seat after it had been sittin in the Texas Sun on a hot summer day. Best thing I did. It looks good and is not so hot after it sits in a parking lot for a while. But like most thing its a matter of what U thinks looks good.
words77 Posted April 22, 2008 #6 Posted April 22, 2008 I think the RSV or TD's look great with alternate color seats. I made my seat from the original pan, used heavy and light veg-tan leather, engraved the seat with graphics and made it 2 tone. I love it. Of course it was a labor of love and my own breation so I am a bit biased here.

DwightGA Posted April 22, 2008 #8 Posted April 22, 2008 Check out my photo gallery. I can't imagine anything looking better than tan.
Yammer Dan Posted April 22, 2008 #9 Posted April 22, 2008 Go for it the tan seats look great if I was not so cheap mine would be wearing a tan saddle. We know all about that. You ride a 2nd Gen so you won't have to go E-Baying for parts!!
words77 Posted April 22, 2008 #11 Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks Juggler!!! I truly appreciate the compliment, that seat took some labor.

My gold '83 has a custom tan leather seat made by a local leather guru. Looks great and sits very comfortable. The only thing is I have to treat it just like a horse saddle and use Farnam's Leather New on it about every couple of months. Most folks that have seen it think it looks great....
roadwarrior Posted April 22, 2008 Author #13 Posted April 22, 2008 I had originally had taken the bike by his shop to inquire about him putting in some gel pads and after I had seen some of his work I walked out wanting some tan leather seats.I guess I need to order a backrest so he can do it as well.I posted his website in case anyone else is interested. http://www.interiorsbydean.com
cowpuc Posted April 22, 2008 #14 Posted April 22, 2008 Here is my 83 with the Tan seat off my 84 Blondie... I have had negatives and positives said about it.. Personally I dont care what they think - its my bike so na na dee na na,,,,, I like it better then black or I would put the black back on...
pegscraper Posted April 22, 2008 #15 Posted April 22, 2008 That guy is full of it on resale value. If you're really worried about it, get a spare seat to keep around. Put whatever seat on there you like. Wow, words, that seat is gorgeous. I'll show that to my wife. She'll love it. She wants a white bike with a tan seat like that. Yes, the Millennium model Venture is white with a tan seat. The white/tan seat version of the earlier Royal Stars is called a Palomino, after the horse, I suppose, and the seat is tan to resemble a horse's saddle.
twiss Posted April 23, 2008 #16 Posted April 23, 2008 Gud'ay mate, I had tan croc skin seats on my 2004. Great look. Then I opted for white snakeskin (Pattern) love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More piccies in the gallery. Stay upright.

iquester Posted October 12, 2009 #19 Posted October 12, 2009 Love the yamaha oem (corbin) tan leather on my scoot.
Godlover Posted October 12, 2009 #20 Posted October 12, 2009 I just picked up a Tan corbin seat off Ebay for my Venture - pd $100 - hasn't arrived yet.
Sylvester Posted October 12, 2009 #21 Posted October 12, 2009 Having an 02 Midnight Venture, I have always thought a tan seat would look the best. Now I may have to look into recovering my seats.
steve crossley Posted October 12, 2009 #22 Posted October 12, 2009 sounds like the guy has his head up his seat ! the great thing about bikes is making it your own . go ahead and do it your way!!!!!!!!!!!!
