10spd Posted June 19, 2017 #1 Posted June 19, 2017 well after 5 months being in the shop I finally got my bike back. it runs great fides better than it ever has thanks to Progressive springs. I have 2 questions first does anyone know if there is an aftermarket company making a rear air shock for the 1988? 2nd my 4 way flashers don't work but my turn signals do is there a separate flasher for the hazards?
bongobobny Posted June 20, 2017 #2 Posted June 20, 2017 OK to my limited knowledge there is no aftermarket rear shock, but the 1st gen rear shocks rarely go bad at all! No, there is no second flasher for the 4 ways, the dash mounted switch just ties the left and right turn signals together and turns the flasher on. You probably have a bad switch or possibly a corroded contact on the switch connector. All years are the same for 1st gen flasher switches...
Freebird Posted June 20, 2017 #3 Posted June 20, 2017 Works used to make one. Don't see it listed now but I'll bet if you shoot them an email or give them a call, they will have it. http://worksperformance.com/html/home.html
CaseyJ955 Posted June 20, 2017 #4 Posted June 20, 2017 Assuming all fuses are intact I wonder if someone didnt bugger the 4 way switch. That switch is tricky to manipulate while removing and replacing the plastic inlays on either side of the head assembly. I love the progressives too, those and new head bearings/races made notable differences in ride and handling. The rear shock on my 89 works and performs really well, but I think there are outfits out there that can overhaul and alter valving/behavior of a shock if it doesn't work as you want it to. I pulled this one out of thin air, no experience with them, but they appear to have this service. http://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/services/motorcycle-shock-rebuilds.html Are you still using the anti-dives with your progressives?
utadventure Posted June 20, 2017 #5 Posted June 20, 2017 If my memory is correct, there is not only a separate switch for the 4-way flashers but also it has it's own fuse. I believe the fuse is in the secondary fuse box that is tucked behind the battery.
Flyinfool Posted June 20, 2017 #6 Posted June 20, 2017 The 4 ways do have their own fuse, that is what allows the 4 ways to be on with the ignition off. The turn signals do turn off with the key.
