Well, after 2 days of riding, member Divey and myself made it to Deadwood, SD, yesterday afternoon. Our first day of riding was over 12 hours, 5 of which were in rainy, cool conditions. Yesterday, it was nice and sunny, but quite windy. Due to the weather, I chose to wear my half helmet, but I should have stuck with the full face, as now I have quite the wind/sun burn face, with the white raccoon eyes where my sunglasses were. I'm sure the people that see me think I look quite funny. Oh well, what can you do?

What an interesting place so far. We stayed in the Celebrity Hotel last night, but they are booked up full today, so we are moving to the Bullock Hotel this afternoon. Reports are that the Bullock is haunted. They have a book that guests are encouraged to add their ghostly experiences. I'm just hoping for a good night sleep, not to be awakened by some "bump in the night " type of thing, although that would be good for a story.

We are looking forward to checking the area out and meeting up with VR member Casey J, aka Tony.

There are lots of characters here, and apparently they have staged gunfights a couple of times a day...cool. The local cemetery has a couple of famous "residents "- Wild Bill Hickok, and Calamity Jane.

We are also looking forward to seeing Mount Rushmore, which is about an hour away.

Dale.

Glad you made it safely, there is a little tour of the Bullock basement and it's pretty cool. Probably the best food right there is above the Old #10 .

Give me a call and let me know what your scheduling looks like. I'm pretty open for the next few days.

OUTSTANDING YOU TWO LOP EARED KANUCKIAN WORLD TRAVELING MOTORCYCLE TOURING VARMINTS = SOOOOOO GLAD TO HEAR YOU TWO ARE HARD AT IT AND MAKIN IT WORK!!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Dale,, pick up a left over Sturgis Rally map, put that lop eared varmint Divey in a headlock and tell em Puc said to follow you to Hill City - just a ways out of town on 385 (main road thru town) going back toward Dead Wood you will find Sheridan Lake. As you round the bend where Sheridan Lake runs along side 385 you will notice some rocky wooded mountain side on the other side of the road.. During the evenings - BEFORE dark - I have seen Big Horn Sheep right there.. Honestly,, I have searched the whole lower 48 over many times (LOVE animal watching) and that spot is the ONLY spot in all the mountain riding we have done that I have ever seen the creatures = THEY ARE AWESOME to view!!

Also,, when/if you do the Spearfish Canyon ride = toward the end of that canyon ride there will be a huge lodge that has buildings on both sides of the road. There is a gravel road that goes off to the right on that bend where the lodge is - right on the corner there is (hope its still there) an old sign that says Water Falls this way.. I think the name of those falls are Rough Water or something like that,, Rough something.. Anyway - worth the time if ya wanna get out of the way and see something cool IMHO..

Also, if you take 16a down from Rush More to do Needles Hwy you will come to Playhouse Rd. where you turn right to go toward Needles Hwy (87).. Right on that corner (16a and Playhouse) is a small campground with real genuine Wolfs to observe.. Definitely worth the howdy IMHO..

AWESOME you two Lop Eared Varmints made it = enjoy, have fun, DONT FIGHT like my brother and I used to and,,,, hey,,, wait a minute,,, no pictures? Ummm,, DONT FORGET THE PICTURES ya lop eared varmints!!! :photographing::cop:

Ride safe!!

DO NOT leave the area without riding Iron Mountain Rd. (16A) south to north from Playhouse Rd. up to 244. It's only 10 miles, but it'll take ya 30 minutes because its crooked as a snake, and a blast. The dang thing has 3 separate 360 degree turn arounds that corkscrew and overlap each other.

Awesome, thanks all. We will get some riding in tomorrow. Neither of us were to anxious to get back on the bikes today after two long days of riding.

Apparently there is the possibility of a large storm tonight, with large hail, so we moved the bikes into the covered parkaide across the street. If it doesn't storm, great, but if it does,at least the bikes should be safe.

Hey Dale/Doug,

Glad to hear you made it. I know what you mean about the raccoon look. Wore my half helmet in Arizona in April and ended up the same way. Don't let it bother you, you look pretty darn funny anyway so it's par for the course. 😉

Enjoy the trip. Wish I were there with you guys. Post some photos if you get a chance. Remember what The Pucster always says...no photos, it never happened.

Be safe...Ron

Dale and Divey,

Looks like I just missed you two. I opted to stay in the historic Bullock hotel, quite a nice place I must say. Free parking behind the hotel. I did visit Hill City on the way out of town, a nice well maintained mountain town surrounded by pine forest. The bar picture is not from the Bullock, but just down the street.

We had a great time on this short trip. It was nice to see the sites the area has to offer, and to meet Tony, who was a great source of information about the area and an all around nice guy.
