truckin48 Posted May 5, 2017 #1 Posted May 5, 2017 Wired horn as per inst., used 14ga. wire and relay. Hooked to pos & neg posts of batt. Pressed orig horn switch, loud as all get out. When I released button, it continued blowing for few seconds. In instr said it didn't matter if original wires where hooked to 85 or 86 on relay. Any suggestions.

Flyinfool Posted May 5, 2017 #3 Posted May 5, 2017 :sign yeah that: The only time 85 or 86 matters is if you have a relay with a diode built in. If you have that it will be shown in the connection diagram that is printed or molded into the relay case.
bongobobny Posted May 6, 2017 #4 Posted May 6, 2017 Well, you could try reversing 85 and 86 (the relay coil) but I doubt that is the issue. The minus from the horn compressor should go to ground and the plus should go to either 30 or 87, with 87 being the preferred one but it does not matter. 30 (or 87) should go to the battery positive terminal. As suggested, maybe the relay is a POS especially if it was a cheapie from China... the horn's original wires should go directly to 85 and 86!
djh3 Posted May 6, 2017 #5 Posted May 6, 2017 Without digging into the wire diagram, I seem to remember the horn system is goofy. It has power all the time and the switch actually makes a ground in the system. Mine (a stebel) would occasionally get that sick cow sound. Slow start then be OK. I would once in a great while shoot a fog of WD in the horn and it seemed to help.

Pushed horn switch horn would not stop blowing. turned bike off it continued blowing. unplugged grnd on horn, it stopped then. Rewired, switched 85 & 86. It then turned on all lights with ign switch off. Reversed 85 & 86, then blew fuses. I did notice that 87 lug was pushed into relay. Bought new relay, haven't replaced yet. As far as being from China, it is a Wolo relay made to their specs but mfg in china. Directions are simple, checked and double checked my wiring. Ridiculous. lol
djh3 Posted May 6, 2017 #7 Posted May 6, 2017 I have been buying relays for 2 or 3 years now building my by pass rig. They just about all come from China. Got a shipment made in Taiwan but I think everything else is China. I over like 200 I have had 1 DOA and another crap out somewhere over 6-8 months after it was in use. So they will go bad, but it sounds to me as though you have something leaving a circuit live.
