Air Ready Auto Posted April 22, 2017 #1 Posted April 22, 2017 Changed my oil yesterday and noticed more than expected metal shavings on the magnet. I know I'm starting to have the first gen 2nd gear problem. Would that cause the shavings or should I start looking for bigger problems?
Flyinfool Posted April 22, 2017 #2 Posted April 22, 2017 When you say shavings, are you talking visible chunks or just ultra fine particles like iron dust? My understanding of the 2nd gear issue is that there is a washer that is not hard enough and it will wear. That wear will show up as iron dust on the magnet. If you have visible chunks, it might be time to worry.
Air Ready Auto Posted April 23, 2017 Author #3 Posted April 23, 2017 Sounds like indeed to worry then. There was the standard dust but big stuff also...
snyper316 Posted April 23, 2017 #4 Posted April 23, 2017 rut roh. none of it copper looking was it? Bolts nuts or screws, is it making any noise.
Flyinfool Posted April 23, 2017 #6 Posted April 23, 2017 How big of chunks are we talking about here? Bob, unless he has one of those special copper magnets....................
Air Ready Auto Posted April 23, 2017 Author #7 Posted April 23, 2017 I have the duel magnet set up. One for iron and one for copper/brass. Most were between 1/16" and 1/8". All were not very wide and looked like shavings. There wasn't a lot, just enough to catch my eye and get me worried.
