05 Venture. Years ago at about 40K I replaced my stock clutch with aftermarket. I think I remember it using more springs rather than the one in the middle found on the stock unit. I do not remember which I used, Barnett, EBC or something else. Now at 120K I'm starting to slip again. Trouble is I do not know what brand I used before. I'm thinking plates and springs to be replaced. I don't remember anything about a half disk from years ago. If I open it up can I tell which ones I need to order? Will either brand work? Down time is not a worry. Comments welcome.

If you open it up, you should be able to tell if you used the Barnett or the SkyDoc conversion. Not sure you can see the half or full disk before removing it.

IIRC, the Barnett pressure plate is bright purple. You really can't miss it. Also, Barnett has heavy duty springs available that work wonderfully.

I went through a clutch every 20-30k miles. Tried the Skydoc mod, heavy duty washer spring, regular Barnett springs (got 50k out of that). I also removed the full friction disc and went back to the split disc/spring inner (better/longer friction zone with split disc). With the heavy duty springs, it rocks. Does make my forearms ache a bit if caught in Chicago traffic for a while.

I replaced all the clutch disc just a couple years ago but started having some slipping last fall during hard acceleration. I just put Skydoc's heavy duty spring kit in this week. As soon as I get the bike off the lift, I'll be able to test the clutch good. I haven't noticed the clutch being any harder than original. I'm hoping this solves my problem.
