2007 2nd Gen and my Set Accel switch is sticky in the ACCELERATE position- can deal with that and just lazy to take the whole thing apart to see why - probably crud build up. Today I hit the CANEL button and it stayed IN. So now I really have the take it apart. Does anyone have experience with the all the Cruise control switches Crudding up or even before I take it apart I should buy a used replacement ?

Thoughts?

Thanks

Guess there are 2 ways you could attack this, #1 carefully take everything apart, neatly lay out all the small parts on a white sheet of paper and carefully clean, polish and re-assemble each individual switch. Probably the rite way to fix things. Or #2 , get a small can of contact cleaner with a small straw nozzle and a white rag, spray in and around those switches as much as possible while catching any excess cleaner in the rag. THen do the same with some WD40 while working the switches back and forth. #1 will probably involve a whole afternoon and a fair amt of aggravation, #2 about 20mins? and it just mite work????

I fixed alot of stuff with WD40 and a rag:fingers-crossed-emo

If you do decide to take it all apart, I read a hint over on one of the Goldwing forums about that sort of thing.

It was suggested to take it apart in side of a plastic bag so if there are any spring loaded parts that come flying out, they will be contained in the bag, could save you having to hunt all over the garage for a small spring or who knows what. I have not had a chance to try this idea so I do not have any practical hints or suggestions on how to do it, but the idea sounds like a good way to keep all the parts in one place, I will try it one day I am sure.

So I attacked it just now. Don't know what I was so concerned about ....now. Took off the brake perch to gain access to the two Phillips screws that hold the switch housing. Unscrewed the screws. The top one I did with a socket wrench due the the short room available. With it open I had more access to shove in contact cleaner and then wd40. The speed control cancel and the set and accel all are once again springy.

I took my newly greased cruise control switches out for a freeway ride yesterday and they were even looser then when I reassembled them. Don't know was I was so afraid to tackling this repair.
