Just replaced starter clutch, lost fire on both rear cylinders. Coils tested good by hooking to front cylinders. I know I'm a newbie here and the answer has probably been posted but I can't find it. I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance. 86 VR. The bike has been sitting for a year and a half.

There is a write up on testing the pick up coils and the coil pacs themselves... but it sounds like you knocked out the coil pac. So it could be a bad connection at pick up coil or at the TCI now if you was getting fire on all four before the repair all in all It is pointing to Pick up coil....

Thanks, I originally posted that I lost fire on one, I went back and checked a little more and realized it was two. That whole ass-u-me thing on my part. I'll look for that post.

Thanks again. I ended up pulling the TCI from a parts bike and managed to shock myself testing the first plug wire. As bad as I hate getting shocked it felt pretty good knowing I found the problem (with help). I'm not sure the year of the parts bike 83-85 but now I'm trying to cross reference part numbers on the TCI to make sure it's compatible with my 86. Then on to carb synch and the road.

I had that happen a time or two, see where the vacuum hooks up on parts bike. And I believe the difference is in the vacuum advance on the mk1 and mk2

I found in another post with the 14-34 part number. Luckily it interchanges. The guy I bought this parts bike from hacked it to pieces when the price of scrap metal was high. He broke a lot of good body parts and cut the wiring harness out for the copper. Most electrical he cut past the plugs so the parts are useless, lucky he couldn't reach the TCI and cut it farther out. Hurt my feelings to see a 1st gen destroyed like that. I did get extra wheels and a seat with backrest with a few useful parts. Thanks again for the info.

I tell you what really sucks is using a restroom that has no water because some crackhead stole the lines and trying to kick on your air in your trailer on 90degree day only to find out your air won't kick on because someone stole the lines and electrical.... My land lord was teed off
