Rick Haywood Posted March 25, 2017 #1 Posted March 25, 2017 OK I have a 2007 RSV, I put in new friction plates and already had put oin a barnett clutch spring. Got eveything back to gether no leaks and the clutch lever feels perfect. I pull the lever back, start the bike and slip it into first. Perfect. Take it for a 10 mile ride and put it back and everything shifts nice and smooth. In the garage with it running and in gear there is no surging or anything but when I go to put it in neutral it will not go. I goes to 2nd then I try again and it gores back to first. I can not get it in neutral. It is pretty hard to move the shifter. If I shut the bike off no issues getting it in netrual. OK Fire away with your ideas
MiCarl Posted March 25, 2017 #2 Posted March 25, 2017 Your new plates are dragging a bit. That torque tends to lock the transmission in gear. The extra force you're using to move the shifter causes you to shoot right past neutral. Did you soak the new plates in oil before you installed? In any case, once they get a little wear it'll probably go back to the way it was.
OrlinEngh Posted March 25, 2017 #3 Posted March 25, 2017 How old is the fluid for the clutch? And did you bleed the clutch? I have had to do that after putting in a new clutch. And I am with MiCarl if you didn't soak them they are binding up.

Thanks I was kind of thinking after my trip next week to Ft Myers Florida and back the problem should be solved

I did not bleed the system fter installing the ne plates but I will do that before I leave and see if that helps. Thanks for the reply Brother. See you in a couple months
Flyinfool Posted March 25, 2017 #6 Posted March 25, 2017 If it is just new plates binding a little. Go to a parking lot and do a bit of slow speed practice in the friction zone. I would want to be certain that all is good BEFORE I head out on a trip. Changing the clutch fluid was going to be my first thought also. At least it is cheap and easy to do as long as you do not accidentally add some air to the system.
