snyper316 Posted March 25, 2017 #7 Posted March 25, 2017 Interesting!!! The windshield is mounted different on a MKI vs a MKII NOw I have to see if I can find a pic of a MKII......................... Yes it would be interesting being its a windshield listed up to 91 I believe.....

CaseyJ955 Posted March 25, 2017 Author #10 Posted March 25, 2017 I can see I owe some folks some beers now haha. Thanks for the pics. I think there are two rubber tabs that are supposed to go in there for the MKII. It is a slightly different mounting. I didnt know that until now. At the two lower mounts the MKII has two holes each and I found a couple rubber tab/brackets that look like they belong there but the screws arent long enough so I'm not actually sure what goes where. It looks like it should be self-explanatory but I think it got assembled w/o the right screws too. I found the tabs/brackets in the trunk.

I dont know but that second hole next to the black screw is where my chrome screws go in so litteraly there almost on top of each other when fully assembled, there is a lower rubber peice on yours not sure how that works was looking at exploded diagram of them and it almost looks like your trim is all one piece also...
CaseyJ955 Posted March 25, 2017 Author #12 Posted March 25, 2017 I dont know but that second hole next to the black screw is where my chrome screws go in so litteraly there almost on top of each other when fully assembled, there is a lower rubber peice on yours not sure how that works was looking at exploded diagram of them and it almost looks like your trim is all one piece also... The trim is one piece, I saw the exploded and saw that the MKI is a 3 piece setup, thats what made me think they may be different. I think the rubber tabs screw into the twin holes and face downward to anchor the headlight trim, then the windshield base trim goes over that... I think. For some reason it just doesn't feel right.
snyper316 Posted March 25, 2017 #13 Posted March 25, 2017 My headlight frame is held on by two screws on bottom the rubber boot that sits around the outer part of the light then the trim holds it at top on mine... So once you get proper placement grab some pictures and post them on a cleaned up thread for someone's future use, I have gotten confused myself on tinkers windscreen. Flyinfool Posted March 25, 2017 #14 Posted March 25, 2017 The wind shield is the same but the mounting hardware is different. Yes the MKII has tabs that mount into both of those close together holes that hold the top of the headlight bezel in place. You have a 50 50 chance of guessing right on how they are positioned, I always guess wrong. If it ever stops raining while it is light out, I can go out and try to get a pic of how it goes. but it is not supposed to stop raining till Tuesday.

Geeze we about share the same weather patterns its crazy almost right on Q with each other...
CaseyJ955 Posted March 25, 2017 Author #16 Posted March 25, 2017 I mounted the tabs downward, it made sense but before I can button her up I'll have to go get some longer screws. Actually I"m fairly sure that there are a handful of screws just like this somewhere on the bike that are about 1/4" longer than they need to be. I've had enough of this thing torn down now that I believe I have uncovered all the intricacies left for me by the PO.

Flyinfool Posted March 25, 2017 #18 Posted March 25, 2017 Yes the tabs point down, but there is a difference left right top bottom and which hole the screw goes into.
camos Posted March 25, 2017 #19 Posted March 25, 2017 Tried to take a pic yesterday but my stupid Moto G3 camera is crapping out. Seems to be an issue that has been around for a long time. Anyway, camera works in safe mode so here is a pic of the front my dusty 1990 VR. Presumably it is just the front attachment points that are in question.

Thats the ticket right there. I had to get screws that are long enough to catch more than a couple threads and she buttoned up perfectly. Thank you everyone who responded and submitted pics!!
Flyinfool Posted March 26, 2017 #22 Posted March 26, 2017 Same holes only with tabs over the top of the headlight cover.. Now what are the other two holes for I bet there for the trim screws... You loose that bet! Those extra holes in the tabs are just to prevent the tab from turning, there is a hollow pin on the back of the tab that goes into the extra holes in the shield. there are no threads in the tab or even holes in the the brace behind the shield. there are also no screw holes in the chrome trim piece. just the 2 screws at the back corners.
snyper316 Posted March 26, 2017 #23 Posted March 26, 2017 Aw I see so basically I don't need 8 screws holding my windsheild on damn I just ordered two chrome trim screws yesterday owell Living life one curve after the other. Vroom scooting, thru the countryside.
CaseyJ955 Posted March 26, 2017 Author #24 Posted March 26, 2017 Yup, 4 screws total for the glass and two screws for the one piece chrome trim piece. With the right screws she went together great. As indicated the tabs have two holes and only one is threaded for a screw. Shes together and running, I spent the afternoon dialing in the Ignitek.
