Has anyone found a harmless, yet effective manner in which to remove the darn sticker they put on the gas tank that says read the manual, wear a helmet, and good luck getting this off??? I am anti-tank damage when it comes to getting this thing off. I cannot believe in this day and age of static stickers and technology that they would not have a better way. Any and all advice is welcome!:confused24:

I heated mine up with a hair blower (softens the glue) and was able to pick it and peel it off with my fingernail so as not to damage the paint. Some of the glue remained but it came off with Goo-Gone (stuff for removing glues, etc.).

WD40 will remove it - taking a hair dryer to it will help.

there is a product out there called " ACRYSOL " made by Kent Automotive Products that is specifically designed to remove adhiesive products. Primarilly used for removing body moldings on cages---- but I've used it for everything from bug and tar remover ( as it does NOT effect paint ) to removing MAJIC MARKER FROM VINYL SIDING!!! (dont ask)

This is so bizzarre! I went into the dealer today, to drop of the plate portion of my current bike ownership, so he can transfer my plates to my new bike, which I pick up next week. While I was in the shop, I went and had a walk around my bike, and just smiled, until I saw those pesky stickers. I asked him if he would remove them for me before I picked it up, and to my utter surprise, he said "NO". At first I thought he was kidding, but he told me a story about another customer, blah blah, tank scratched, blah blah, had to repaint, blah blah blah...

Anyways, here is my answer, perfect! I think I am going to like this forum!

Just took mine off the tank 2 wks ago. Used a hair dryer on high for about a minute to soften it up then started peelin it off from a corner. After about 10 seconds I would put the dryer back on it to soften it again. When I was done I had some glue residue still on the tank. Took a soft cloth and squirted some wd 40 on it,then wiped the remaining glue off in about 2min worth of rubbing. came out fine.:080402gudl_prv:

It sounds like I should just leave my new RSTD parked in the Georgia sun and the sticker on my gas tank will probably melt off...

Use a new, flat-bladed razorblade scraper - NOT!

Oftentimes you can if the surface is flat and you keep the angle very low but on the tank, the surface is round and it's very easy to nick the paint. (how do I know this?)

A hair dryer and goo gone as someone else said works perfect. Get the sticker as warm as possible.

I saw too someone asked about the emblem on the rear of the trunk quite a while back, but no one answered it..

For those, take a piece of fishing line and tie each end to a stick, then use the line like a saw under the emblem, just pulling back and forth and working your way through the two sided tape that holds them on. Then use Goo Gone to remove any left over tape.

No blades ot scrapers needed for any stickers or emblems.

I used duct tape to remove those pesky stickers off the windshield and tank. I first heated the sticker up a little with a hair dryer then applied a strip of duct tape over the sticker. Cover the entire sticker with duct tape and press it firmly onto the sticker. Let the warmed area work a little on the duct tape. When I slowly peeled the duct tape off the sticker mostly came with the duct tape. Dapped a fresh piece of duct tape on the remaining pieces of sticker to finish removing the rest. :080402gudl_prv:

Once it's soft from heat you can pull some fishing line across it between the tank and emblem to peel it off. Don't "saw" aggressively though, it can scratch the paint. If it's softened up you can pull the line through it. Then it's just a case of getting the adhesive off using some of the techniques mentioned above.

Used a fingernail to remove it after it got good and hot in the Georgia sun. Then a dab of naptha on a towel to clean up the glue residue.

That was probably the first thing I did after taking my new RSTD home. I have no idea why they put that stupid sticker on in the first place.
