It seems like every time we have some warm weather this time of the year, we have a local biker killed, either from someone pulling out in front of them, or loosing control. We are going to be in the 70's here Monday and warm for the week and it seems like every time this happens, we have a local biker hurt or killed. Sometimes it is from new riders on bikes purchased during the winter, or people just not accustomed for seeing motorcycles out on the road.

Either way, let's be careful out there. :backinmyday:

With the nice weather yesterday and today here in Ontario I have been itching to take the Venture for a run, but have resisted the urge, what with salt and sand collecting up in the corners and snow still on the ground it seems like a bit of a risk for a couple of hours of enjoyment. The wife was non too happy when I expressed the urge to take a ride after seeing a couple of other bikes on the road, lucky for me the Venture is up on a stand, bit of a pain to take it off the stand for just one run, guess I can wait another month or so.

It is kind of Ironic you would post this as we don't have to worry about losing control, But that Bad Boy has been Used Alot this past week, I have more lights and strobes going and this stupid woman pulls out in the road and takes up to lanes of traffic while at a crawl making a Right turn onto the Road. There was no reason for her to turn this way, I had to go into turn lane horn a blaring and she just kept mosing out there she almost came into the turn lane. Granted going 30 mph in town had plenty of time to react but me not trusting people I had already switched lanes and prepared for her to pull out just wasnt prepared for her to be going slow and take up two lanes....

Warm=dead.

Hmmm. Wonder why. Got out today in the sunshine and was cruising at 60mph on back roads posted at 30mph. Felt Gooooooood.

I can care less if your in the north pole or not, You still have to look both ways before pulling out in the road. It is common sense, anymore tho its like O lets pull out in front of this Truck, he will slow down I am in a fiat. People amaze me.... Or its vise versa

I gotta say a ride in mid-50's is really tempting, but I can't justify going out until the salt is gone from the northwoods blacktop. It is bad enough on cars, but even worse on bikes. The sand in the intersections doesn't help, either.

Couldnt resist...weather perfect for riding over the weekend here in Toronto area....and riding i did. Wet, some areas with road salt, but just hosed down the bike before parking it.

Yes, but as Venturous Randy says...be extra

careful.

On the local news they have been giving warnings every day for motorists to watch out for bikes. This has become a standard part of the weather. I do not know if the weatherman is a biker.

And now they are saying that we might tease the 70° mark this week.

There is alot of bikers, most of the lawyers here have bikes. I know at the Springfield Weather Channel a few of them ride so most of the time on the local news they say at least 20 some odd times during the reports remind people to keep an eye out for us.

Got out on Saturday myself, not to long , about an hour ride but boy did feel good. We had 60's and sun here in Michigan, great weekend. Welcomed a new grandson on Sunday so:clap2: no riding.

I know what you mean about nasty crashes this time of year. A fellow I used to work with lost his 43 year old son on Sunday when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an oncoming SUV with his Harley-Davidson. No idea why it happened, but it wasn't the SUV drivers fault. It is unusually warm here in PA. I just haven't had time to get mine out. I got a ride in on a nice day in January. Maybe Friday if I get all my chores done and the cable technician that is coming doesn't take too long, I can get a short ride in. You can bet I will be on high alert, as I always try to be while riding, both for my rusty skills and the cage drivers who really aren't looking for me.

People generally are not even thinking of looking out for bikers in the northern states in February.
No matter how many reports or warnings there are I don't believe the vast majority of drivers ever think to look for a motorcycle or a cyclist at any time of the year. It is my feeling the only drivers who actually look are riders or cyclists themselves.

When you are on the road, you are on your own. Look out for yourselves at all times. Like someone on here says, ride like you are invisible.

I have had this signature for a long time and now that I am in a Miata, it is not much better. I installed bright LED lights I use as daytime running lights just to be seen a little better.

Yes, you are the one.

Very appropriate advice for any rider any time of the year.

Hey Clive, I have seen T-shirts, keychains, license plate frames and stickers have that saying on it. Very very good advice another saying I like is (I don't ride to add days to my life. I ride a to add life to my days!)

Quite so for both, one keeps you alive and the other makes it all worthwhile.
