slowrollwv Posted February 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2017 Well I was getting the bike out this morning to go for a ride and noticed oil on the floor. Checking things out it looks like it may be coming from the back end of the motor. It is dripping down onto the frame tab for the center stand on the left side of the bike. My question where is it coming from?
bongobobny Posted February 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2017 You didn't accidently overfill at the last oil change, did you?
slowrollwv Posted February 19, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 19, 2017 No I didn't over fill it. I will take the left rear fins off this week and see if I can find where it is coming from. Not sure what is behind the chrome cover that hides the clutch bleeder, Have not been in there yet. After thinking about it today while riding it may be the valve cover gasket starting to leak. KeithR Posted February 19, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2017 I have had a slight leak from what I think is my left rear valve cover gasket. I did tighten it a little cause I understand it's a shoulder bolt and you have to be careful. I just wipe it with a tissue every now and then and it takes a long time to accumulate there again. I only get a chance to ride maybe 4- 5000 kms a year so its parked alot. If I'm going to replace the gaskets it would be good idea to do a valve adjustment but I don't think in my case it's severe enough to justify the expense. DMW Posted February 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) Check neutral safety switch. That were mine was leaking and ran off the same areas. Mine was cracked, white nylon. I had a post recently on this. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?127138-Oil-Leak-2003-RSV Edited February 22, 2017 by DMW Link
slowrollwv Posted February 22, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted February 22, 2017 I went over to the tech section and looked at the pics. My leak is not dripping from the line it is from the mounting tang for the center stand. It could be the clutch slave cylinder and running down onto the frame. ragtop69gs Posted February 22, 2017 Share #7 Posted February 22, 2017 Most likely place is a valve cover gasket. I have one leaking, that's on the spring todo list. Gotta give Skydoc a call and get some shipped up here.

Is the fluid low in the clutch sight glass? You should be able to tell the difference between motor oil and hydraulic fluid.
slowrollwv Posted February 22, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted February 22, 2017 Jay is a little hard to tall after it runs down on the frame, it gets a little dirty when it hits the floor.
Flyinfool Posted February 23, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 23, 2017 In that same area is where the stator wires come out of the side cover, that is a popular place to leak.
slowrollwv Posted February 23, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted February 23, 2017 Jeff I was showing it to my son last night and he said it smelled like brake fluid. I am going to pull the cover off and the rear fins to check the valve covers tomorrow.
k9cottage Posted February 23, 2017 Share #12 Posted February 23, 2017 brake fluid is water soluble engine oil is not so if you put some water on the floor and it mixes it is break fluid [clutch fluid] a quick check if it is engine oil it won't mix.
