van avery Posted February 13, 2017 #1 Posted February 13, 2017 Got to put a few miles on the 85 Royale I'm renovating. Have an oil leak that shows up after it warmed up. It is under the retanglaur cover on the side of the engine that covers the plug for the water jacket to the cylinders. Don't believe it's suppose to leak here. It the front right cylinder. Was warmed up and checking the carb sync and noticed the oil leaking from here. Don't believe that right any ideas? Pulled the cover off the right rear cylinder and did not have the same problem.
MiCarl Posted February 13, 2017 #2 Posted February 13, 2017 That hole under the cover is a drain for the spark plug well. There is a very good chance the valve cover gasket is leaking and the oil is running down along the spark plug and out that hole. A nuisance, but something you can take your sweet time fixing.
van avery Posted February 13, 2017 Author #3 Posted February 13, 2017 Thanks, the gasket on the valve cover has a rolled area in the ubend area but I did not see any large leak from there. I'll get her fixed. Thanks again.

Thanks again. It's a small leak. It's hard to see because the oil is clean up there. By the time it comes out the cover it's picked up some dirt so it's visible.
snyper316 Posted February 13, 2017 #5 Posted February 13, 2017 You know the only reason my oil leak sucks is because its the oil pan. It leaks a very small amount of oil if I had to guess maybe 1 quart every 6 months. So just enuff to make things stink specially at a stop light. Been debating whether to fix it or not as it looks like I would have to pull the exaust to get to the oil pan.
