The Beast Posted January 24, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2017 The 2003 Venture Not Me. I've been happly married for 34 years my wife told me I want to get hitch and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. New vs used, chrome vs painted, wiring harness length and storage of harness when not pulling trailer. And Does anyone have one for sale or know of someone? bongobobny Posted January 24, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2017 There are several different hitches out there, but I will mention the Hitch Doc as a well built one. Yu will need to use a 5 wire system to 4 wire system converter, I personally like the Hoppy as it is a good one and reasonably priced. All of the wires you need for the harness is located behind the license plate inside in that chrome bulbous thing...
M61A1MECH Posted January 25, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2017 I would check with Carbon One at this link on our classifieds for a hitch set up http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=30&title=rsv-2f-rstd-reciever-hitch&cat=15 I would suggest checking out my classified section(see links below) , I have plug and play 4 wire or 5 wire set ups to match your trailer. I always just kept my harness ty-wrapped to the hitch insert that takes the place of the center tie bar on the saddle bag stays. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=459&title=5-wire-plug-n-play-trailer-harness&cat=18 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=458&title=4-wire-plug-n-play-trailer-harness&cat=
Flyinfool Posted January 25, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2017 I do not know what is available for 2nd gen hitches, I made my own hitch for my 1st gen. I would not wire the bike until you get your trailer, some trailers are 5 wire and some are 4 wire. You would hate to do all the wiring work and find out it is wrong, OR have to pass up a great deal on a trailer because it has the wire configuration that you did not do. Most 4 wire trailers are for a flat 4 connector, very few use a round 4. 5 wire is more split between a flat 5 and a round 5 connector. Again it is better to get the trailer and then wire the bike to match.

MikeWa Posted January 25, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 25, 2017 A hitch is easy enough to install on the Venture. I wired mine with a 5 wire plug. I felt that was the easiest for Japanese bikes. Then if needed I could use an adaptor for the trailer. In my case I modified my trailer for 5 wire. Mike
