Got a 17 yr old grandson in hospital with collapsed lung. This is 3rd time it has done this. They have no reason they can find for it. Very active kid. They claim it just happens at times?? I think they are nuts on that one. He wrestles, plays ball, jumps out of trees!! A kid that healthy I can't see it "just happening" Please remember in your prayers.

That collapsed lung business is terrifying, cant even imagine having such a thing happening unexpectedly - especially at such a young age brother!!! Prayers Up for your Grandson - RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!!!!

Gotta ask Dan, any idea if he has been seen by any kind of Respitory Specialist? Gotta be something causing it, please dont give up on the search for answers!! You folks keep bugging the doctors and us folks will keep petitioning The Great Physician = together we WILL find out whats going on and get that young man the help he needs!!!

Thanks for posting this and PLEASE keep us updated with anything you find out!

I know all about how hard this one is Puc. I've had it a few times myself last one being with the "Flail Chest" thing but that one came back pretty easy with the damage I had. Had one in 76 that didn't want to reinflate. They had to put tube in my chest which is NO FUN!! He has the tube now Again!! Yeah I think it plain crazy that they say it just happens. Can't accept that. This young man is very active. He is a Woods. His mom is very anti motorcycle so he don't have that one but does the bikes, skateboards. trees, boxing and all that stuff. It doesn't just happen but I never had restrictions after it healed when I had one and his is just colasping again without a reason. I know I'm going in circles here but this thing just don't make sense. Beginning to scare the boy I think along with a few others. I'll keep ya posted on what is happening just not much news from the Idiots (docs). Not understanding that either. Thanks for Prayers!!! "The Man" can take care of him.

I had that or something very similar also as a kid. It is scary as an adult and even worse as a kid. The docs said it has nothing at all to do with activity. They gave it a big fancy name that I can not remember. I had one in the middle of a race when I was on the swim team, nearly drown, I had a couple while sound asleep. Sometimes the right side sometimes the left. The docs did say that it is something I would out grow, and I did. All of my episodes were between the age of 10 and 15. Never happened again since.

Prayers up for the little one.

Prayers Up, Dan!

Re: Collapsed lung. Gotta say from personal experience...no fun.

The docs told me it's happens to young men, thin and active....especially if they live at high altitudes, (I did at time and was thin and very active). No reason given but thankfully mine came back on it's own...

Never happened again, but I moved out of Denver not to long afterwards.

Done deal my friend.

Let them find the reason and have the skills to prevent it.
