GFRicky Posted December 31, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2016 My bike is up on the stand legs and covered for the winter. Just noticed that there is a small amount of coolant under her. Looks like it is coming form about the left passenger foot board area. Any ideas where this is coming from?
slowrollwv Posted December 31, 2016 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2016 Is your bike stored in a heated garage? If not when it gets cold the little rubber plugs under the fins start to leak a little. It could be running down the back of the motor.
bongobobny Posted December 31, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2016 Yup!! What Chuck said!! There are these round rubber plug things that are under the false fin cylinder covers that are known to leak and cause issues like that!! A simple fix is to remove the fake fins and tape a dime (sorry, you Canucks got rid of pennies, they are cheaper) and reinstall the covers. The thickness of the coins presses the plugs in tightly stopping their leaking...
GFRicky Posted January 2, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted January 2, 2017 Thanks. That was my thoughts too, but wondered if maybe I was over looking something. It's a 2004 so I may as well just get some new ones while I'm at it.
Skid Posted January 3, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 3, 2017 My 2004 did that last year but later stopped after I rode the bike some. I also purchased one off eBay for 5 bucks or so and keep on the bike. Yamaha 90338-11152-00 90338-11152-00 PLUG
WIZ Posted January 3, 2017 Share #6 Posted January 3, 2017 I replaced my rubber plugs about 18 months ago. And recently I had some antifreeze leaking down in about the same area. I took the fins off to place a coin on the back off the fins to stop the leak, but after further checking it was the hose going into the center of the valve cover area that was slightly leaking and the antifreeze was leaking down through the weep hole at the spark plug and running down the side cover just like when the rubber plugs were leaking. I have had this happen on both off the hoses going into the valve cover area on both sides of the bike. While you are pulling the fins double check those hoses just to make sure. BratmanXj Posted January 3, 2017 Share #7 Posted January 3, 2017 I noteced the sweet smell of coolant a few weeks back when I did the Chicago Toys for Tots run. A few weeks of sitting in the cold and those little rubber plugs started weeping. Does someone have the part number or maybe the eBay listing where you found them for $5?
