camos Posted December 20, 2016 #1 Posted December 20, 2016 I've been looking at the cost of E3 tires for my VR. They seem to be at a good price at Amazon.com in the US, interestingly sold by Motorcycle Superstore for less than for what is offered on motorcyclesuperstore.com. https://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-Elite-Touring-Front-Tire/dp/B001VJ1GQ6/ref=sr_1_8?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1482186674&sr=1-8&keywords=ELITE+3+TOURING+FRONT+TIRE https://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-Elite-Touring-Bias-Ply-Rear/dp/B001VKLL2O/ref=sr_1_3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1482189736&sr=1-3&keywords=ELITE+3+TOURING+rear+TIRE The Motorcycle Superstore site does not even offer the right size for the VR front, strange. Anyway, for what it is worth, the Amazon price seems to be better than I have found at any of the usual online retailers. So I just bought a set at fortnine.ca for CAD$162.52 each which works out to about USD$121.00 with free shipping.

Hey @camos, Just a thought but I could have swore the back of our bikes had 15" rims in the back.
MiCarl Posted December 20, 2016 #3 Posted December 20, 2016 Hey camos, Just a thought but I could have swore the back of our bikes had 15" rims in the back. Nope. 16". 2nd Gen is 15. But camos, I hope those aren't the tires you bought. The rear should be a MU90-16 and the front an MT90-18.
snyper316 Posted December 20, 2016 #4 Posted December 20, 2016 Nope. 16". 2nd Gen is 15. Just one word! CRAP!!!
djh3 Posted December 20, 2016 #5 Posted December 20, 2016 My rear E-3 on my Victory 180/60R-16 is got the feathering on edges going on that happens as they get wore out. So I have been shopping around some. Bike has radials on it and If I had to replace both I think I would just go bias ply.
BlueSky Posted December 20, 2016 #6 Posted December 20, 2016 I wonder why they don't list the load rating. I bought Metzler Laser tec tires for my Kawasaki ZN700 a while back from Motorcycle Superstore and the rear tire was 5 years old when I received it. Maybe they are getting rid of their old stock on Amazon?
CaseyJ955 Posted December 20, 2016 #7 Posted December 20, 2016 I got a decent price from Dennis Kirk on the E3 tires for the gen 1.2. I think it was about what the Amazon price is. If they get any cheaper I'll snag a set for the Vmax too.
snyper316 Posted December 20, 2016 #8 Posted December 20, 2016 don't know how you all feel about shinko's http://www.ebay.com/itm/231171987261?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT http://www.ebay.com/itm/322057769616?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Both are under $100

I don't think the price of Shinkos compare so well when you add up enough tires to get the same mileage as an E 3 gets.
camos Posted December 20, 2016 Author #11 Posted December 20, 2016 I got a decent price from Dennis Kirk on the E3 tires for the gen 1.2. I think it was about what the Amazon price is. If they get any cheaper I'll snag a set for the Vmax too.I did look at Dennis Kirk but they were priced a bit higherplus they had a $5 tire fee. I did not pursue the shipping cost but there was no mention of free shipping on the sales page. https://www.denniskirk.com/dunlop/front-elite-3-mr90h-18-blackwall-tire-4079-84.p543446.prd/543446.sku https://www.denniskirk.com/dunlop/rear-elite-3-mt90hb-16-blackwall-tire-4079-91.p542892.prd/542892.sku
camos Posted December 20, 2016 Author #12 Posted December 20, 2016 So I made a mistake with the front tire link as it is the wrong size. Here is a link to the correct size directly on Mororcycle Superstore but it is not such a great deal. My apologies for the screw up. I'm still happy about my purchase on fortnine.ca though. It's rare that something can be purchased for less in Canada. I've been looking at the cost of E3 tires for my VR. camos Posted December 20, 2016 Author #13 Posted December 20, 2016 I wonder why they don't list the load rating. I agree but the Dunlop site has that info. I bought Metzler Laser tec tires for my Kawasaki ZN700 a while back from Motorcycle Superstore and the rear tire was 5 years old when I received it. Maybe they are getting rid of their old stock on Amazon? That might be why there is a difference between Amazon/MCSuperstore and MCSuperstore although perhaps more likely is is due to my screw up with the tire size.
Rick Haywood Posted December 21, 2016 #14 Posted December 21, 2016 I ran shinkos one time and never again. I only got about 5000 miles out of them and for me that is about 6 weeks. I went back to the e3"s
mralex714 Posted December 25, 2016 #15 Posted December 25, 2016 I ran shinkos one time and never again. I only got about 5000 miles out of them and for me that is about 6 weeks. I went back to the e3"s I am running Shinkos now, the 777HD on the rear and the 777 up front. I have over 7000 on the rear and about 4000 on the front and neither show hardly any wear and I love the way they feel stable at fully loaded high speed and tight and sure in the twistiest roads.
djh3 Posted December 26, 2016 #16 Posted December 26, 2016 Big key. To remember on tires guys is load ratings. That's kind of where I'm bumping the wall now looking. The Michelin dont come in the correct load rating and radial. Same with Mettzler and Bridgestone. So Avon and Dunlap is about it.
