JC Jipme use to sell some sort of X1 battery recondition pill you put in the cells. I dont know if any of that stuff works. I guess if the plates are corroded it could, but if they are broken like most batteries short out, no chance. But its basically free, so your not out a ton of cash.

I'm getting the impression from the pictures on the cover that it misleads you into thinking you can restore D cells, 9 volt, AA's, etc which you can't really!! Sure, you can rejuvenate lead acid batteries but for the most part, I'm smelling scam!

 

Maybe you CAN judge a book by it's cover...

I found a You Tube video for reconditioning rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries, like they use in yard tools. I had a Ryobi battery that was so flat the charger would not recognize it. So I did what the video said, used a power supply to charge the flat battery with just enough juice to allow the charger to recognize it. It did work, the battery did charge up, it did power the tool, but the charge would only last about 1/2 the time as a good battery and the battery would not hold a charge on its own. If I left it in a charged state on the shelf, a week later it was dead again. So yes that worked, to allow me to charge the battery, but it did not recondition the battery.

 

Wet cell lead acid batteries may be different, for the cost of a box of Epson salts like the video showed, it could be worth the effort, but I am not sure I would want to trust it on my daily driver that I depend on to get to and from work, especially this time of year if I were up north.

I did try the battery additive once when I was really poor and my battery died. It did get me another month before the battery was again no longer able to take a charge. Bottom line I would call that a failure. This was on my only vehicle so it was my daily driver. As for the high voltage "de-sulfating" My truck does that during normal operation, when I first start the truck it charges at 16 - 17 volts for a short while which is supposed to de-sulfate the battery. It then supposedly monitors the battery charge and will drop the voltage down to 12.6 as the battery reaches full charge so that it is only a maintenance charge so as to not over charge the battery. My thoughts, It is a gimic that don't work, the OEM battery was dead in just 37 months and 37K miles. Just out of warranty. My replacement battery is getting weak now at just 3 years old. So I would conclude that all that stuff don't really work and may even hurt a good battery. It is also my opinion that once the OEM bulbs burn out people seem to be doing a LOT of bulb replacement that I believe is due to that 16-17 volt charge rate after every start stressing the bulbs.

Steve, look up "rebuilding power tool batteries" on you tube. I just rebuilt one of my Dewalt batteries for my drill. Would be much easier for a fellow with your soldering skills. You can buy ni-cad and lithium batteries off e-bay for reasonable prices.

 

Jeff most places that sell batteries, the way they check them is a capacity check. So.... If it has enough warranty left that its not going to cost you as much as a new one. If it is "bad" now get it replaced while you get some $$ off. Now it will have to check bad and be dead, but I think your smart enough to figure out how to make that happen.

I have never yet had a battery die within the warranty period. I usually get close to double the warranty out of a battery. I always buy the best ones with the longest warranties.

Just use plain aspirin. I have stretched the life of a couple car battaries by just tossing a couple aspirin in each cell. Not fool proof and does not work every time but on occasssion I have got better than 6 months out of a battery. That was back when batterys had caps.
