yamagrl Posted November 28, 2016 #1 Posted November 28, 2016 The adjuster said that Big Red is going to be a total loss. I will not likely drag it back to Fla. I do not yet know how much the ins company will determine the salvage value to be. If it's not too much then somebody ought to grab it up. BR has a bunch of goodies plus I rebuilt the Karbs, starter clutch, new head bearings, progressives, front wheel bearings, rear wheel bearings including needle bearings, rear E3 with about 5k, front Kenda with about 2k. If I do not retain BR and someone wants him it will only be the salvage value to the ins co. I will be limited in the amount of time to make a decision. So, if you would like to be kept in the loop PM me your email and contact info. I'll post pics when I receive them from ins co. I'm posting this now to give a heads up because time will be limited. Heather

Heather AND, you repaired the second gear issue didn't you?!!!!!
yamagrl Posted November 28, 2016 Author #3 Posted November 28, 2016 AND, you repaired the second gear issue didn't you?!!!!! Yes. I did the second gear repair in 2014
snyper316 Posted November 29, 2016 #4 Posted November 29, 2016 Is Big Red Even still rideable or do you even know. I guess they must go by Black Book Value which if we went by that, Our Bikes are only worth $500.00. Which kind of don't make sense because The Black Book is what Title Loan Companies go by. I KBB it and its worth tripple to three times that. I thought you were gonna keep the beast? It would be harder to insure with salvage title. I wished I could get my hands on a Black Book because I have title loan on my truck and they appraised it at $1250.00.
BlueSky Posted November 29, 2016 #5 Posted November 29, 2016 When my son wrecked his (my) car in 2008, I was paid retail for his car which came out to about $2k more than I paid for it just 6 weeks prior.
BlueSky Posted November 29, 2016 #6 Posted November 29, 2016 I only have liability insurance on my two old bikes, my 2002 F150, and my 2005 Dodge Magnum. So, if I wrecked them, I would be out the value of the vehicle. My wife's 2013 Infiniti has full coverage. I even dropped the wind and hail coverage on my house. It's fairly expensive because everybody east of I95 pays the same rate and I got tired of subsidizing the beach houses. I'll be okay as long as one of my pine trees doesn't fall on the house or gets hit by a tornado. Mulitple hurricanes have been direct hits on my home and so far, I haven't had any wind damage. (Knock on Wood!)
Yammer Dan Posted November 29, 2016 #7 Posted November 29, 2016 400 miles??? If I had room the Ranger would take a trip....
yamagrl Posted November 29, 2016 Author #8 Posted November 29, 2016 I just got a call from the adjuster. He said the value is $2950.00 but my policy has a $2000.00 max so that's what they will most likely pay me. He still has to submit it to Allstate. He also said he didn't think it was ride-able. I'm going tomorrow to retrieve my personal stuff and look it over, spend the night in Birmingham with friend and be home Wed. I'll post some pics and more info as I get it. YG
Yammer Dan Posted November 29, 2016 #9 Posted November 29, 2016 Hold out for the value. I took mine clear to the Insurance commissioner.
Woody Posted November 30, 2016 #10 Posted November 30, 2016 YG. this probably will not be any help but here it goes, I live south of Talladega,Al. and my Dad lives in Cantonment, Fl. If there was a way to get it this far I could bring it to you the next time I go to my Dad's. Storage and the delivery would be free.
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #11 Posted November 30, 2016 When my son wrecked his (my) car in 2008, I was paid retail for his car which came out to about $2k more than I paid for it just 6 weeks prior. You got lucky or I need your insurance.... The most I have gotten out of a car I had full coverage on back in 2000 was $450, ended up using it as a down payment on a cadi that broke down 5 months later..
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #12 Posted November 30, 2016 Ok I do have a question which bike does she call big red? I am in shock insurance companies seem to have come a long way from what they used to do but maybe because I'm in Missouri.

CMCOFFEY Posted November 30, 2016 #14 Posted November 30, 2016 Do they even make any aftermarket accessories for our bikes that are not pictured on Big Red? That is a beautiful bike.
BlueSky Posted November 30, 2016 #15 Posted November 30, 2016 You got lucky or I need your insurance.... The most I have gotten out of a car I had full coverage on back in 2000 was $450, ended up using it as a down payment on a cadi that broke down 5 months later.. In late 2008 the recession was in full swing and the auto industry was in the toilet. I bought the like new 2006 Miata with only 12k miles on it for a low price because the dealer was desperately trying to stay in business. $15k My 17 yr old son who had been driving a FWD Focus lost it in the wet and totalled it 6 weeks later. The insurance co. paid me $17,500 for it which was about retail. But, it was hard to know what real retail was because the books had not been revised to reflect the actual sale prices at that time.
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #16 Posted November 30, 2016 WOW that is a super nice bike, I would say someone put alot of blood sweat and tears in this bike. To keep it looking that good. How long did you own this Beautiful Bike?
yamagrl Posted November 30, 2016 Author #17 Posted November 30, 2016 WOW that is a super nice bike, I would say someone put alot of blood sweat and tears in this bike. To keep it looking that good. How long did you own this Beautiful Bike? Thank you for the compliment! Big Red didn't look like that when I got him in Sept 2012. The above pic was in the fall of '14 after doing 2nd gear. I stripped the clear coat and removed the chrome from the engine covers, valve covers, etc., polished with red and white rouge and buffing wheel, clear coated witn KBS clear coat for polished aluminum and stainless steel and redid the detail painting on engine covers, etc. There is a lot of goodies on Big Red. Somebody ought to snatch him up. The ins company set the salvage value at $535. Here's a pic of the engine before I fished back into Big Red in 2014.
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #18 Posted November 30, 2016 How bad is he? Would it be recoverable? Living life one curve after the other. Vroom scooting, thru the countryside.
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #19 Posted November 30, 2016 Sorry I just hate to see something this beautiful, and knowing what Heather has put in this bike. Just can't see him going down for good.
yamagrl Posted November 30, 2016 Author #20 Posted November 30, 2016 How bad is he? Would it be recoverable? Living life one curve after the other. Vroom scooting, thru the countryside. Will probably have a salvage title. Here's some pics of the damage.
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #21 Posted November 30, 2016 Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Is the front wheel pushed back?
yamagrl Posted November 30, 2016 Author #22 Posted November 30, 2016 Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Is the front wheel pushed back? I don't think the forks are bent, but they might be. I think it's the camera angle from the left side
bongobobny Posted November 30, 2016 #23 Posted November 30, 2016 Do they even make any aftermarket accessories for our bikes that are not pictured on Big Red? That is a beautiful bike.Ehhh, a mere one or two only. There were chrome vent covers on the front fairings, side crash bars for the engine covers like the ones on the saddlebags, and a chrome chin with lights to protect the oil filter... Beautiful bike Heather, hate to see it go! Yes at $525 that is a deal!! You could more than double your money parting out the remains... The important thing is you are OK!!!
Freebird Posted November 30, 2016 #24 Posted November 30, 2016 At $525.00, it would be a bargain for somebody with a first gen that needs a second gear.
snyper316 Posted November 30, 2016 #25 Posted November 30, 2016 Cmcoffey comes to mind. Motor alone is worth that for a spare. Living life one curve after the other. Vroom scooting, thru the countryside.
