Yesterday I pushed it too far and ran out of gas about 2 miles from a gas station. So, I'm on my way on foot with my little gas can. Walked about a mile in a light drizzle having been passed by more than a dozen vehicles non of which stopped to offer me a lift. I was feeling a bit grumbly but since it was my own fault was trying unsuccessfully to suck it up. Suddenly a guy on a bike stopped to offer assistance. He had passed me a few minutes earlier going the other way but when he saw my bike on the side of the road he turned around and found me. He offered to take my gas can, get it filled and meet me back at my bike. I told him I didn't have any money, just a credit card and he said that didn't matter. I gave him the can and started walking back to my bike and almost got to it when he arrived with some gas.

The guy's name is Steve.

I am sure there are quite a few people on the forum who have met their own "Steve" and I also know that there are quite a few "Steves" on this forum. For all the "Steves" who make this world a better place, take a moment or raise a glass... "Here's to you Steve."

Going to work one morning, saw a sport bike on the side of I-20. Pulled over to him. Newby rider on his new used bike. Yep out of gas.

Something really nice about the Venture (carbs) is that you can pull the gas line at the petcock and fill up a 16 oz water/sports drink bottle in no time.

Gave him a bottle or two of gas and followed him to the next station.

We are STEVE!

Its kind of funny how some bikes:icon_lurker: forgot the gas gauge. I never run out of gas on them but the ones with the gauge I have. Just like the other day when I went to the Falls this guy in a really nice Camaro Pulls up and offers assistance, Although I did not need any it is sure nice knowing there are Steve's out there. I have even used my tripple AAA membership to get someone a tow he tried to help me a while back get my bike pop started. So cheers to the Steve's out there.:essen_024:

Hey, I'm a Steve----:banana:no, really, Steve

I pulled a Steve this past summer, I was riding my vstrom up to see Yooper on I-39 and saw a couple of bikes along side of the road, so I pulled up and asked if they needed any help, and you all know that 99% of the time, they (two middle aged couples) had stopped for some reason and didn't need any help, well, they did. Two couples on big Honda Goldwings, one with a flat rear tire. So I asked if they were going to fix it, and of course they had NO tire repair kits. I told them that I had everything to fix the flat if they wanted to. They did, so we set about plugging the rear tire, twice, two plugs the first time and one later. I plugged my pump into my 12v outlet and proceeded to pump it up. So now we have the flat fixed. I went to start my bike and found my bike DEAD. So, the lesson here is to leave your bike running when running the pump/slime pump. So a guy in a pickup stops, biker, gets his cables out and jump starts my bike. Not one person, other than the pickup stopped during this ordeal, which took a hell of a long time.

We all went on our way and all was good.

When I'm traveling on my bike, and I stop along side of the road for some reason, quite often I have folks, mostly on Harleys stop and ask if I need help.

If I find the real Steve I will let him know how grateful you are but in the mean time .........

I have tried to find Steve on our local facebook pages but so far he is totally elusive. Steve may just want to stay that way but I have had a lot of the local riding community complementing him.

OK let me make a statement. Isn't there a little bit of "Steve" in all of us???

yes sir there is but before you let Steve stop and help check your surroundings real good. I was on my way home from a night shift and a guy had a flat tire on his truck and was barely off the road so I slowed down got a good look at him and the truck, turned around and went back to help I was amazed at how many cars would not move over even with no other vehicle in site. I guess at 5am and on a dark road he was lucky anybody would stop.

Here to Ya.

A little bit of a twist on this.

Years ago I was on the way home from work and I took a different route which took me by a river. There is a rather remote wooded area where a lot of people gather in the summer and party. As I was going thru that area, there was an older car sitting off the edge of road and two attractive young women were standing by the car. I pulled up and asked if everything was OK as they looked stranded. They needed a ride back to the local university and the two guys they were with had disappeared.

Both girls had been drinking and one was pretty drunk. Given that I was in a 240Z Datsun, there was not a lot of room, so the drunk one ended up laying down in the back. We did make it back to their dorm and I went home. That evening there was a story on the local news where two guys had been down at the river and one fell in and the other one evidently jumped in to save him and both drowned. I'm pretty sure both were probably drunk. I called the Sherriff's Office and reported what I had encountered, but never heard any more about it.
