RSV antenna dilemma

Got a quick, and maybe easy question regarding the AM/FM antenna mount on my Gen II Venture. I am replacing the factory ones with shorties. The CB side went well. When I went to take the other one off, I didn't have a very good drip on the base, and even though I re-gripped it and finished removal, the base is now "sloppy", and I can't seem to get it to tighten. I am not going crazy with wrenching on it, for lack of understanding of it's design. Any tips ?? Nothing appears broken just yet, but I don't know much about how these are constructed, as far as tightening it to the bar. Before I really booger it up good, I thought I'd bring it here. Can the boot beneath it be slid down at all ?? What's beneath it ?? Perhaps there are some flats on that section that I can hold to re-tighten it ?? Please don't tell me that I'll need to replace the whole cable !!

Sold my RSV recently but if i remember correctly, there is a spacer nut under the boot used to tighten the antenna down. Suggest you peel the boot back and take a peek under there.....should be obvious once the boot is removed.
