So this is recent, when i get on the bike after its been sitting a while, when i hit the start button i get the solenoid click, but no start. if i hit the button a second time it fires right up! Also noticed it won't start in neutral with the kick stand down anymore. Did a wire jiggle loose, is this a harbinger of battery issues, am I just loosing my mind?

Sounds like two possible separate problems.

Hearing a click and then having it start on second try of the starter button is either a battery getting weak from old age or the battery cable connections need attention, they could be loose or they could be dirty. How old is the battery? Have you pulled the seat and checked the connections at the battery? Make sure they are not corroded, if they are take them lose and clean them up, reattach them and tighten them well. I always lay coat of grease on mine to keep moisture away and slow down the corrosion process.

Does not start with kick stand down is probably an adjustment issue on the kickstand interlock switch, bad or broken switch or a wire loose or off at the switch.

When you say "no start", do you mean it cranks but does not start, or does it not crank at all.

And as you check the cable connections, also check the solenoid behind the cover at the passenger footrest. This is a common place for corrosion too

Well since the lights do not dim at all then it is not the battery connections.

It still could be the connections to the solenoid or the starter, but odds are it is the contacts in the solenoid.
