I love mechanical things! Be it motorcycles, big machines or just simply gears meshing together and turning, these things have always fascinated me ever since I was a kid. Well if you having a budding engineer in your family check this out as a potentially AWESOME Christmas gift for both young....or old like me. I think I'll be picking up the Business Card machine for my desk! I so need to buy a laser CNC cutter to make cool things like this!

Well you know if you think about it would take a lot of time to cut out all them gears and all the complexity of them its not a bad price. Just think if they were made with plastic or metal.

TOTALLY AWESOME VanRiver = :178::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:.... Gotta say bro,, I LOVE the one with the working pistons = like you,, brings out the gearheadeyetist just RUMBLE inside!!:big-grin-emoticon: WAYYY COOL...

:scratchchin:,,,, wait a second here,,, just watched it again and noticed the Christmas marketing scheme,,,, not so sure about that idea - specially after raising 4 kids.. I had my hands full finding the time to put together tricycles, swingsets, Pocohantis tents, hamster cages, doll houses, H.O. race car sets and on and on.. Not so sure that I like the looks of the labor entensiveness of what I see here... And dont be pulling the old "but Puc,, your SUPPOSE to build it WITH them routine on me either brother :no-no-no:... Back when my son was 4 I thought it would be "fun" to get him started into model cars = bought him the coolest 65 Vette model ya ever did see.. 15 tubes of model cement, 15 bottles of paint and paint remover for the cupboards and 2 months later we ended up with something that looked more like a cross between a Motorhome with a Dinasour glued to the top of it and something out of Road Warrior than we did with a 65 Corvette.. Never forget it Riv,,, kid looks at me,,, points at the box and says "Daddd,,, how come THAT dont look like THAT :confused24:"... Solved the problem,, next year I bought em a great big box of bottle rockets (for stocking stuffers) and a REALLY cool Rocket set up - now THAT was hit!!! 2 minutes and we were set up in the field launching rockets ..

Following year was a 71 Honda CT70 (still in the basement - WOW the memories attached to that lil scoot) and NO turning back from that...

I dont know Riv,, thinking if this setup were available back then,,,,, probably still be putting my kids 4th Christmas gift together :rotfl:

I don't think these are meant to be a toy for the kids to play with after it is built by you. I think it is supposed to be a fun project for YOU to build and then set up on a shelf to look at and spin the mechanism once in a while just for giggles.

Back in the day we probably would have squirted lighter fluid on it and set on fire while we watched it running off into the grass setting the grass on fire.....

Definitely a toy for grown ups.

According to the reviews, they are labor intensive and require meticulous attention to detail, but work well if assembled properly.

Just the kind of thing I love. As a kid I'd spend weeks sanding and painting each individual piece of my Revelle and Testor's model kits then painstakingly assemble them with as little glue as possible for a perfect reproduction. I quickly lost interest in them once they were finished and most were destroyed violently with explosives or launched into low orbit with rocket motors.

I think I'd hold on to one these for a while though.
