baylensman Posted October 26, 2016 #1 Posted October 26, 2016 So i've been doing some internet readin' to get get ready to DIY my rear tire. Found this bead breaker on line. Only issue I don't have a spare mercedes lying around.
Flyinfool Posted October 26, 2016 #2 Posted October 26, 2016 I would think that a BMW or a Porsche would suffice.
WildBill1 Posted October 26, 2016 #3 Posted October 26, 2016 You should be ashamed putting your Mercedes thru such humiliation.
BratmanXj Posted October 26, 2016 #4 Posted October 26, 2016 In a pinch I've done similar, but used the rear sub-frame / trailer hitch. With modern unit body cars I'd be afraid to bend up the pinch welds along the rockers doing it as shown in that photo.
BlueSky Posted October 26, 2016 #5 Posted October 26, 2016 Looks to me like a 2x4 on its side might break if you pushed very hard.
djh3 Posted October 27, 2016 #6 Posted October 27, 2016 Yup have used that method myself. Well minus the Mercedes. I have to use the hitch on the PU
GaryZ Posted January 5, 2017 #7 Posted January 5, 2017 Yup have used that method myself. Well minus the Mercedes. I have to use the hitch on the PU For years I used a C-clamp and a small block of wood. Then I bought a bead-breaker from Harbor Freight and never used the clamp again.
djh3 Posted January 6, 2017 #8 Posted January 6, 2017 I can buy a lot of 2x6 for $50. Plus less storage room.

I can buy a lot of 2x6 for $50. Plus less storage room. I picked up one of those little HF Bead Breakers a number of years ago for $15 after using one of those HF coupons. After breakin beads with 2x4's, car method like above, C-Clamps, 16 inch Channel Locks and even beating them loose by standing on the tire and using a heavy wrecking bar - gotta say that little bead breaker is the best 15 bucks I ever spent.. Sure makes the tire change routine a lot easier I tell ya cause those beads can be a formittable challenge unless your !!
